I purchased this 52" RCA, approx a year ago... maybe. Took every $ I didn't have. Turn it on, the power light comes on and a few seconds later TV cuts off. Sometimes you will hear the TV program before it turns off.. sometimes you will even get a glimpse of a picture.. the picture will blink, become vertically smaller.. then shuts off. Tried un-plugging to reset.. TV traveled to every outlet in the house... still does the same thing. Even went on a 30 mile trip to the nearest "RCA Authorized Tech". He could not find anything wrong.. then charged me $100 to plug in my TV and watch it for a week. (Sometimes it will work for a while... most times it will not) Last several weeks, it has chosen not to work. Power light is on.. but, no one is home. Few seconds later, cuts off completely again. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE HELP ME QUICKLY. So frustrated and disappointed. Many Thanks!
Hi, Based on your post/description, my guess is a loose connection or a cold solder problem (higher probability). Not unless you want to make another "30 mile trip", you have to find a local tech who is comfortable working with live/hot sets. The usual precaution on working with live/hot units and HV applies. This involves opening the back cover, powering the unit and with a foot long + insulated rod (I use a broken fiberglass fishing rod), poke around the inside of the TV, part/move the wires about, also press on the boards slightly. The idea is locate the loose connection or the cold solder. Soon as located, poweroff and resolder. If there is a component/board failure, the unit would not have operated intermittently. There is a big chance that the loose connection or cold solder just worsened and that cause the recent "chosen not to work". Further, the power light still turns on and you have not posted any other indications such as a beeping sound or blinking leds/lights which normally indicates failure. Hope this be of assistance/idea. Post back how things are or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards.
