Hi there , heres a simple case of the recording format on the cds , its likely that your daughter's cds are recorded on a computer in a format probably mp3 or higher speed thats not compartible with your boom box . The solution to this is to record your cds in Normal format , and they will surely play !

Unfortanatly, this is why Emerson only warranties these for 90 days, but I have heard and recommend that you contact Emerson and tell them you did not think that their product would break down after a mear 90 days and a lot of times, they will send you a new one, if you bug them enough. There should be a contact number in the owners manual. If you do not have the owners manual, go to: http://www.emersonelectronics.ca/emerson/en/home/ There is a contact link there. By the way, the problem you are having is a bad spindle motor or the laser optics are bad. Have you tried to clean the small laser lens off yet with a cotton swap and some good 90% or better alcohol? Good Luck

First place to start is making sure that the lense is clean

The laser is dead or damaged. Try swabbing the laser with rubbing alcohol on a Q-Tip, then IMMEDIATELY blowing dry with canned air. If this fails, the laser is dead. If it is a Sony KSS-2xx series laser (try to peek in the laser slot to see the decal on it) you can get replacements online. If not, it's junk.

Might be the laser but try lubbing the spindle motor 1st!
