Tray won't close

Use the following steps to close the disc tray on an original Xbox 360 console.
Step 1: Remove the disc from the tray Step 2: Make sure the faceplate is on correctly
The faceplate is the plastic piece on the front of your console.
  • Press firmly around the edges of your faceplate to snap it into place (make sure it is flush with the rest of the console). If the faceplate is not on correctly, the disc tray won't close.
  • If you find that the faceplate is the problem, please contact Xbox Support to order a replacement faceplate.
If this does not resolve your issue, please try step 3. Step 3: Press the eject buttonTry closing the disc tray by pressing the eject button. If the disc tray successfully closes, open the tray and insert a disc. Now try opening and closing the tray with a disc in the tray.
Note Make sure that the disc isn't sticky and doesn't have any labels that could prevent the tray from closing.
If your disc drive still will not close, please try step 4. Step 4: Move the disc drive tray

Tray won't open.

hello,

the reason the tray wont open is because there is a problem on the mechanism that controls the opening and closing of the tray.

most likely the rubber that assists in opening and closing the disc tray.

to fix this, unscrew the player, turn it on and press the open button, it'll respond and stop.

you'll see a kind of mechanism that carries the tray, its engine is by the side of the tray.

when the tray stops responding after you've pressed the open button, try to carefully sit the engine properly and press the open button again and it will respond.

if you cannot do that on your own,try to take it to a service center for further repairs.

take care

Disk unreadbale

To fix this, use one of these few tips:

*1.clean the disc drive
*2. replace the disc drive

3. Put in a game and tap with a moderate force on top of the drive
4. Clear system cache. To do this, go to system settings and click memory. Press "Y" and go to clear cache, or click: "X" "X" "LB" "RB" "X" "X" as a button sequence.
5. Clean the laser and the rails. If the unit needs to have the laser reader lens cleaned DONT use regular rubbing alcohol. Get pure stuff....the rubbing type leaves a glare on glass and plastic lenses. Also ,the chrome rails that the laser moves along sometimes need to be cleaned and lubed with liquid silicone. This method clears read problems most of the time not resolved by these other techniques.

6. WARNING: Don't try this one if you don't want to take even the slight risk of damaging the console even further! Turn off the console with a cd in it. Then open the disc tray, and quickly take out the cd, slam the tray shut (Not too hard now), and turn off the XBOX 360.

My xbox wont read discs, when i put the disc and close the tray, it says its reading the disc and then just says "open tray" as if not even reading the disc at all

take a can of air and gently blow some into the drive. If that doesnt fix it then at that point its going to be either a problem with the laser in the drive or you can replace the dvd drive itself. Either way you go, try Ebay cause you can usually find parts for the 360 cheaper then most places.

Tray wont open

Power your unit off using the button. when it's off unplug the power source from the back of the XBOX and leave it out for 30 sec. Reconnect the power source and reboot your machine. Try the disc tray again. If it doesn't work try giving it a tap or a solid knock on the top of the case above the disc tray while it's trying to open. Don't drop the machine or try to pry the tray open. If it doesn't open when you tap it then try light pressure on the front of the tray while it's trying to open. (you can tell it's trying to open because the disc status on the screen will say opening...)

Now if the above did not work
Get a straightened paper clip.
Remove the faceplate carefully starting from the indention that you will see on the side
After removing the faceplate, look for a pinhole just below the disc tray.
*There are two pinholes just below the cover of the disc tray and one pinhole below the X and B of XBOX logo.
*You can try any of the three holes
*Pinholes are so small that the girth of the paper clip is the only object that can fit through the pinhole.

Now insert the paper clip into the pinhole then put a little pressure until the disc opens.

If it opens try to close it, if it closes try opening it again, if it wont open the second time then it need to be serviced
If it opens try to close it, if it wont close try nudging the disc to the right and then to the left, if nudging doesnt then it need service
If it wont open after trying all three pinholes - its needs service

It may be jammed or the drive gear stripped.

I can't eject a dvd from my mac pro desktop

Try these tips.....usually holding down the touchpad buttton while tapping the eject button during bootup works.

picexporterror Shut down the computer and start up whilst holding down the mouse button. This may take some time, but keep your finger on the mouse button right up until the disc comes out or the log-in screen has appeared.
picexporterror If you have Toast Titanium installed on your computer, choose EJECT DISC from the menubar.
picexporterror Sometimes you can successfully use the eject disc button in iTunes even if the disc is not visible to the Finder
picexporterror Open Disk Utility and choose the disc you wish to eject in the left-hand pane, then click on the Eject button.
picexporterror Some Macintoshes have a paperclip hole that you can insert a straightened paperclip into, manually triggering the eject mechanism.
picexporterror Open Terminal and type "drutil tray eject" to eject the disc/tray, and "drutil tray close" to close the tray.
picexporterror Restart the computer while holding down Command-Option-O-F, to enter the Open Firmware prompt. Type "eject cd" without the quotes, and press return. The disk ought to eject. To start into OS X, type "mac-boot" without the quotes. Press return, and the computer will continue with the startup. (This will not work on an Intel Mac. There is no Open Firmware on Intel Macs. )
picexporterror If your computer has an eject button on the keyboard, restart the computer holding down the Option key. When the startup disk selection screen appears, let go of the option key and press the keyboard's eject button.

Tray is not opening

To open the tray this is not a perfect fix, but it will allow to use it. After the unit is powered on: 1)Hit the "Open/Close" button 2)Wait a while (you will get the timing down with practice) 3)Tap gently, yet briskly with fingertips at area in the attached pic, that the red arrow points to I think the problem is that the tray becomes unbalanced somehow. Because when a DVD is in, the drive opens fine, only when there is no disc do you have to tap on the unit.
