TV has sound but no picture and the menu won't display.
Remove back, inner cover that is over the pc boards.
On LCD controller board next to the connector that goes to LCD panel check
cp this is a surface mounted component remove it and put a jumper in its place. I have done this and the result was a working TV.

Kindly check your cellphone's microphone.... it might be defective or inoperative. If your cellphone is equipped with a handsfree system, try it. This could solve or confirm your problem.

I have a blank line running vertical down my screen about 5" wide it is over the main menu I tried other inputs resetting. what is the problem and can it be fixed

This sounds like a problem with the T-CON board. This is the LCD controller board for displaying images on the screen.
Some times the contacts on the connectors do not make good contacts for whatever reason.

IF you know how to work on electronics or have a friend with knowledge/skill you may be able to fix it.

>UNPLUG the set and all attached cables.
>Lay the set face down on a cloth covered surface.
> Remove the back cover.
> Remove the shield over the T-CON board.
> Disconnect AND reconnect the cables to the T-CON board. Be careful here. The connectors will have a clip which must be released to remove the cable. Hopefully this will clean the contacts.
If it's not fixed, try it again.
If the problem is not solved you can try replacing the T-CON board. Make sure the part numbers are the same.

YOU CAN TEST THE SET BEFORE THE BACK COVER IS RE-INSTALLED BUT BE CAREFUL. IT'S ELECTRIC !!

>Replace the shield over the T-CON board.
>Replace the back cover.
>Try the set.

You can search for T-CON board from;
www.shopjimmy.com
eBay
http://www.tvpartsandmanuals.com/
http://magictvparts.com/
etc

The board will look something like;

I have an vizio 32"

This looks like the cables connected to the T-CON board may have worked loose.
The T-CON or timing controller, is what sends the video signal to the LCD (sometimes called LCD controller). The cable connectors on this board have very small contacts. Sometime some of them can become loose because of heat, contamination, shaking etc.
IF you know how to work on electronics or have a friend with knowledge/skill you can repair it.

DO THIS ONLY IF YOU KNOW HOW TO WORK ON ELECTRONICS.

> Disconnect all cables/cords on the back of the set.
>Lay the set face down on cloth covered flat surface.
>Remove the back of the set.
>Remove the metal shield covering the T-CON board. This board generally located in the center near the top.
>You can wiggle the T-CON cables around (for better contacts) to try and get the streaks to go away.
> Set tv upright so it is stable.
> Reconnect the signal source and power cord. DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING ON BACK OF SET!
IT IS ELECTRIC !
> Use the remote to turn on the set. IF the streaks are gone, then turn set off
and UNPLUG THE SET and remove the input signal cable.
>Lay the set face down on cloth covered flat surface.
> Replace the shield over the T-CON board.
> Replace the back cover.

Resume operation.

IF moving the cable does not improve the signal you can disconnect/reconnect the cables and see what the picture looks like. Be careful not to damage the connectors. They may have clip that must be released first before removing.

IF disconnect/reconnect the cables does not work you can purchase another T-CON board and install it. The boards are relatively inexpensive.

I think the board will look something like this;

I have a samsung 40 lcd tv that needs a motherboard replaced how can I do this

Do you have a replacement board? What exactly is a motherboard in the tv? The main board with cpu? Open the back of the set and take digital pics of everything there with close up shots of the main board and all its connectors so you will be able to re-assemble the same way. Don't trust your memory. Unplug the set also, use an anti-static work surface and grounding strap. disconnect the wires to the board first then remove the screws holding the board. Don't drop or loose anything in the set. Install the new board and screw it into place, re-attach the wires. Plug it in and try it. If it works, re-install the back.

My Sharp Carousel R-510HW 1200 Watts Microwave oven will not respond if I press any of the buttons. Have tried unplugging the unit and readjusting the plate with no success.

On these models, the LCD is connected to the main control board via a rubber connector known as a "zebra strip".

Sometimes the connections can get contaminated.

One can take the control board off and clean the contact surfaces of the board, the edges of the zebra strip and the connection side of the LCD glass with high-grade isopropyl alcohol.

See drawing below.

Bad SMT connector on main board

mmm. a very small tipped soldering iron
while working under a mantis pcb magnifier.
you'll need a steady hand.....
don't however try to remove the sm connector, this will probably only wreck the pcb. try to use small wires to make the connections and bypass rather than try to rescue the connector.
