Secondary drive 0 not found

When I turn on my desktop computer it takes me to:

Dell System Optiplex 170L Series
BIOS Version A05
Secondary drive 0 Not Found
Strike F1 key to continue
F2 to run the sep up utilities

When I strike F1 then windows starts and I am k, I have being doing this for about 3 months to start, but it doesnt feels right.
Can someone explain to me, and if it is a simple solution to this problem, if this means the computer may crash soon.
Any advice will be helpful, TYVM.

Same Problem

May 24, 2009

-   I am getting a similar message when booting my Dell Dimension 8300 PC, but I know that "something" most likely occurred when the battery on the motherboard was recently changed.

"Secondary drive 0 not found
Secondary drive 1 not found"

I have 2 EHD's and they are both being recognized as well as the PCHD, but my CD/DVD drive is not working. I really, really, really don't want to mess around in the bios without directions from someone who knows what they're doing.

Can someone please direct me in the steps to fix my problem in the setup?

Thanks in advance. -   Guest

Hi there.
Sounds like the boot order has been changed in the bios.
The secondary drive sounds like the CD drive as most laptops only come with 1 HDD installed.
Change the boot order to the primary drive by Pressing F1 during startup when the ThinkPad logo is displayed..
Once in the bios change the boot order, save and exit, the computer will restart and boot from the hard drive, when you get into windows check to make sure that the CD rom recognizes CD/DVD's.
Please post back if you need any more help.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

You didn't say if you actually have a secondary drive? If you don't then the problem is in the BIOS. Next time press F2 and go into setup. Look for the line that indicates Secondary PCI (or SATA) drive. Press ESC and select load optimal system and save.
