HP 2300d This printer is suppose to have duplexing built in. There is NO finishing tab for me to change the preferences to allow the duplexing. Can anyone help me out on this one? Thanks

No that didn't work either. There is on Configure tab. There is a General, sharing, Ports, advance and Device Settings tab and I've looked under each and no configure tab. Under Features it shows double sided but says "NO" next to it and I can't find a way to change it. I can't find the disk that came with the printer and it is hooked up to a jet direct.
    Any other ideas?

  • sblankenship Mar 25, 2009

The printer description shows Hp Laserjet 2100 series PS but I don't see the 2300d series listed when I set the printer up to choose it.

Also, HP finally got back to me and said to make sure the duplex unit is set to install under "Installable Options" however the only thing listed there is "total printer memory 6-7mb.
Thanks for the help everyone. Hopefully if all of your assistance I will get this thing working!

  • sblankenship Mar 25, 2009

We have Microsoft Windows XP Home Edtion version 2002
The Jet Direct is hookup only to spool the printer. Not to a network environment. The printer is used for printing statements and reports.

Does that give you enough info?
Thanks again for helping me out with this.

Thanks I will give this a try and get back to you.

Still working on the issue. I have not tried it yet since the person's computer that needed the work hasn't decided if they still want it

For a HP2300D printer - Right click the printer icon in Start-Settings-Printer & Faxs. Select properties - click on the Configure tab. Make sure the duplexer box is checked. When you print an item, click the preferences tab in the printer pop up box.. Make sure the print on both sides box is checked. Repost a comment if this isn't your problem and please rate this solution when we get the printer to duplex.

What is the printer description in Windows? If the 2300D (D indicates duplexer) is installed as a 2300 Windows doesn't know the printer has a duplexer. In the File - Print dialog box isn't there a Properties box?

  • Jim Mar 25, 2009

Ok you have several problems. #1 as far as HP telling you to use the "installlable options" I don't think the 2100 ever had a model with a duplexer so I don't think you can enable duplex printing on a printer that never came with a duplexer. The 2100 had a "both side" option that requires printing the page, then turning the paper around and putting it back in the tray to print the second side. The duplexer eliminates this manual step. What do you use the printer for? Using the printer PS (PostScript) driver without the Post script font memory card has no advantage. You get better performance and compatibility using the PCL 6 (Printer Communicatiuon Language ver6) ) driver. At any rate, what operating system are you using? (If Windows doesn't have even the 2200 series printers listed it must be several years old) Comment the OS and I'll post a step by step solution with a link to the current driver. Yeah, we'll get it working. Also you said the printer is connected to a JetDirect (external network print server) Is this in a netwotk envirionment?.....

  • Jim Mar 25, 2009

Go to this url and download and save the driver. (about 14mb)

    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/Tec...

Uninstall the "2100" printer you now show - turn the printer power off

Extract the saved driver file to the default location (probably lj2300 or something close) then shut down the computer.

Start the computer back up and install the new printer like you did before, but don't let Windows detect and install it. Add the printer using the extracted driver location. Let me know how you make out....

How can I change the default setting to enable Duplex printing

You didn't specify your operating system so I'll go with the most used. My printer is a different model but the process is the same.

To enable/disable duplex (both side) printing (by default):
·from the "Start" button in Windows 7 open "Devices and Printers"

(Select Priinter.jpg)

·RIGHT click on your printer and select "Printing Preferences" If it is a multi-function device (scanner/fax) Select the "printer" (not fax) function.

This will pop up the printer's "Properties" dialog box.

(Printer Properties.jpg)

·On the "General" tab select "Preferences" near the OK button/
(Printing Preferences.jpg)
·Under "Printer Preferences" change the "Print on Both Sides" box from "None" to "Flip on Long/Short Edge". Then click the "Apply" button.
Close all the dialog boxes left open by selecting OK.
Job done.

I am trying to set the printer to automatic duplexing...?

Hi

If you want to set Print on Both Sides (duplex) as the default setting for all print jobs (even single page jobs) use the following steps.
  1. Click Start , Printers or Printers and Faxes from the Microsoft Windows desktop.
  2. Right-click the HP Color LaserJet 2605dn_2605dtn and select Printing Preferences (Properties in Microsoft Windows 2000).
  3. Click the Finishing tab.
  4. Select Print on Both Sides under the Document Options section.
  5. Click OK to save the setting and close the Printing Preferences window.
  6. Close the Printers or Printers and Faxes folder.
Note:In this scenario, all print jobs, even single print jobs, will be treated as Print on Both Sizes (automatic duplexing) for media that is supported by the duplexing unit. For media that is not supported by the duplexing unit, the job will be treated as Print on Both Sides (Manually) (manual duplex).

Have a hp laserjet 4350 network printer and have select print on both sides check on the printer preferences and in the finisher tabs. but still doesnt not print on both sides.

This would have to be a 4350DN or DTN model to do automatic duplexing. I would make sure you have one of these 2 models. Depending on what driver was loaded the duplex option may show up, but if the printer does not have the duplex option and the associated firmware then it will not duplex automatically.
This is the only thing I have seen that would cause what you are describing.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

  1. Click Start > Printers and Faxes or Start > Settings > Printers and Faxes.
  2. Right-click the HP 2300d printer and click Printing Preferences.
  3. Click the Finishing tab.
  4. Check the "Print on Both Sides" checkbox.
  5. Click OK.
You can also access the Printing Preferences dialog box within the application from which you're printing by clicking Properties or Preferences next to the printer's name.

Duplex printing in HP 2420dn

Hi,

I had the same problem. It was due to incorrect properties in the printer settings.

  1. Go to Start >> Printers and Faxes
  2. Right-click on the HP 2420 printer and select Properties.
  3. Go to the Device Settings tab.
  4. Under Installable Options, set Duplex Unit to Installed.
Also, make sure that the Printing Preferences are set to Two Sided Printing:
  1. Go to Start >> Printers and Faxes
  2. Right-click on the HP 2420 printer and select Printing Preferences.
  3. Go to the Printing Shortcuts tab.
  4. Select the Two Sided (Duplex) Printing option.
That should do the trick.

HP - please change your setup so that this is set by default!!
