Question about Samsung RS2578BB Side by Side Refrigerator

2 Answers

Samsung rs2578sh The unit is approx. 2 years old. It completely shut down-no compressor and no lights on the digital panel except a "-". The interior lights worked. I read a solution for a different problem on a similar model posted by CATRIVER which suggested putting the refrigerator in the self-diagnose mode by pressing the power freeze and power cool buttons at the same time for 8 seconds to get an error code suggesting a possible correction or repair. I tried this to get an error code. I got no code but the refrigerator started within a few seconds and is in perfect working condition! Does anybody know why this happened?

I have a Samsung RS2556SH and had the same error. Did as you suggested and unit started right up. I am afraid unit will fail in near future. Please keep appraised of any future fixes. THANK YOU very much. TommyV

I have a two year old Redstone 30,000 BTU propane wall heater. There is a lot of dust behind the unit. After running for awhile on the 2 setting, it shuts down and the pilot is extinguished.

If it is a wall unit, it has an over temp safety switch which is most likely tripping from dust preventing proper airflow across it . A good cleaning should cure this.

Freezer runs for approx. four days with operation normal. Then the temp. panel of front door displays a symbol that looks like a short L followed by a period. Then the temp. gauge and the interior light...

From what I read, the "L." that you see on the control panel indicated that the controls have been locked. According to the manual if you hold down the "alarm reset" button for 3 seconds the "L." will disappear allowing you to control the temperature again. I don't as of yet know what is causing your overall problem though...

See if the torch electrodes MIGHT be stuck... welded together. They have to arc and then separate or unit will shut down.

2 yr. old. worked great. Then started shuting down self changing setting to low. shortly after, shuts down after 3 min. no water collection, unit is hot. Took apart. Cleaned everything inside, and filter....

Robinson, it really sounds like the compressor is overheating. This may be caused by a low refrigerant gas in the compressor. Or the compressor's oil has leaked down. But, if you took the unit apart to clean it, I would think that you would have noticed an oily residue. If it is the compressor (other than needing to be recharged) it would cost almost as much to replace it, as it would be to buy a new unit.
At least with a new one, you'd have a one year warranty and more, if you purchase an extended warranty.

Hope this helped you.

Fridgde shut down. freezer droppped to 48 degrees and fridge at 68!!!!is it the compressor? Its only a year old!

If it's only a year old then the compressor/sealed system is under warranty. You should have a 5 year warranty. Go to www.frigidaire.com and request service.

Central a/c compressor has failed. Approx. 9 years old.

Info is somewhat incomplete, but here is what I think.
If you just want to replace the compressor, that amount should cover it or at least be real close. But, if the unit is, say, over 10-12 years old, you may want to replace the entire unit. The issue then becomes very expensive. The new laws now make it a requirement for manufacturers to produce nothing under a 13 SEER rating. This has really driven up the cost. Plus, you may have to replace the indoor coil to match the new outdoor unit in almost every case. Then you have to look at the air handle to see if you have enough blower to move the correct amount of air over the new coil. If not, then a new furnace and blower is required.
I know this sounds like way too much information but, you asked and I feel you need the complete picture. I'd get it checked by a tech and ask for 2 senerios, repair exsisting, or replace and upgrade system.
Good Luck and hope this helps.
And congrats on your new home. Hope you enjoy it.

Freezer has difficulty shutting off

Check the relay located on the compressor on the back of the unit. Sounds like the relay is not completely shutting down the compressor. Almost like it is still allowing electrical currents to get to the compressor

The fan alone on an A/C unit draws alot less amps than a fan and compressor. I would guess that your fan and compressor draw around 15 amps when bnoth are on. The unit should be on its own breaker or fuse (whichever you have. As things get old, like fans and compressors, they wear out and will draw more amps.
I see you have 2 choices,:
1) place the A/C on its own circuit with nothing else on it. This may buy you some time until you can replace the unit.

2) Buy a new A/C as the newer units are more energy efficient, and last longer.
