Usb problems with 2nd generation ipod

Hi, hope you can help. I am using g4 mac tower, which I believe does not have usb2 ports. Every time I try to connect my ipod into the mac it is not recognised. Sometimes after hours of trying it may work one day. When I put ipod back in a week later it will not. I have tried various updates , but still my ipod is not recognised. Please could you advise? Thanks

Try resetting the ipod, this usually works. As follows: How to reset iPod To reset an iPod with a Click Wheel, including: iPod nano (3rd generation) iPod classic iPod (5th generation) iPod nano (2nd generation) iPod nano iPod with color display (iPod photo) iPod (Click Wheel) iPod mini iPod mini (2nd generation) Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.) Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step. Tip: If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center. If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep. To reset iPod, iPod (scroll wheel), iPod (touch wheel), and iPod (dock connector) Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.) Press and hold the Play/Pause and Menu buttons simultaneously until the Apple/iPod logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step. If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep. If you are still unable to reset your iPod, use only one finger from one hand to press the Center (Select) button, and one finger from the other hand to press the Menu button. When you reset iPod all your music and files are saved, but some customized settings may be lost. Date and time is preserved (unless the iPod reset itself because it had no power and then was reconnected to power). Other customized settings, such as Bookmarks, On-The-Go Playlists, Shuffle, Backlight timer, and so forth are preserved from the last time the hard drive turned on. Good luck, and I hope this helps.

Ipod is not recognized by itunes. it wont play or charge it just blinks 4 times when i plug it in

  1. The iPod reset utility will reset your iPod shuffle back to it's factory settings. It works for the following shuffles: iPod shuffle (1st Generation) - iPod Software version 1.1.5, iPod shuffle (2nd Generation) - iPod Software version 1.0.3
The reset utility will fix the following issues.
    1. The iPod won't play music and can't be restored using iTunes
    2. iTunes won't see the iPod but you can see it under "My Computer" in windows or under Apple System Profiler on a Mac.
    3. iPod shuffle (1st Generation) is identified as a device in "Recovery mode." iPod shuffle (2nd Generation) is identified as a "USB DFU device."
  2. You have to have administrator privileges to run the restore software and it will wipe out all the information on the iPod (including all your music) and install factory software back onto it.
System requirements are Mac OS X 10.3.9, or later, Win2k with sp4, Win XP, this won't work on Vista.
Download the file for the program here:
  3. Install the software onto your computer, plug your iPod into the USB port and run the reset program, it will ask for your permission to reset the iPod, answer yes and the process will proceed. After finishing the reset procedure then use iTunes or whatever software is used to access your iPod and load your music. Enjoy your toy!

Konica Minolta DiMAGE Scan Dual IV Film Scanner driver in an IMac

DS Dual 4 even works with SnowLeopard on a CoreDuo MBP. But it doesn not support Autofocus when used under USB2. You have to use a USB1.1 Port, if you want to use autofocus function. Every time the software crashes, because you tried e.g. to use autofocus with USB2, you will have to close the application, go to the folder User/Library/Preferences/DS Dual4/... and look whether there is a file name something like "MFSlib...." and pull it to the trash bin. You can start the application again. PS.: Your keyboard USB port is a USB 1.1 port!

Ipod Touch 8gb problems

Hi K,

Ahhh, everything has suddenly become very clear :) All is well and there is nothing wrong with your ipod. Heres what you need to do.
  • First, install the very latest version of iTunes onto your PC or Mac - Download it from
Tip: Uncheck the two boxes and don't enter your email address
  • Once that's installed, start iTunes up and connect your iPod to the computer via a USB2 port (any on a laptop but not through a hub; on a PC tower use only one of the USB ports on the rear of the machine, ie, none of the ports on the front) - It's gonna need charging (That's what the Batt symbol is showing) so leave it for a good 2hrs.
  • While it's charging I'd recommend spending some time familiarizing yourself with the user guide - it explains alot of these symbols and more importantly how to get started with your new iPod. You can download the manual from here:
  • When it's good and charged then follow the onscreen instructions for the iPod on iTunes. You have to register the iPod first before you can use it. So once you've done this all will be well in the world for you. See page 5 and 6 of the manual.
All the best

When i plug in my ipod shuffle to my computer it doesnt recognize it or itunes. can you help?

Are you using a PC and not a Mac?
If so, Shuffle's require a USB2 connection on PCs. Some PCs advertise USB2 ports. However, sometimes the USB port on the front of the machine is actually the slower USB v1. Try connecting your Shuffle to a USB port on the back of the machine. If it works, that's the one you need to always connect to.

Ipod nano 2nd Generation

Hi there, hopefully by now you have this solved but in case you haven't (or for any others out there having troubles) make sure you are using a genuine Apple USB Cable (you can pick them up a lot cheaper on eBay from Hong Kong and so on). Also make sure it is plugged into a USB2 port that is connected directly to the motherboard (ie, on the back of the PC and not to a hub).

Also, and this is a big point, make sure you have the very latest version of iTunes installed. Sometimes the drivers get corrupted so do a reinstall to be sure.

All the best everyone,

IPod doesn't download etc.

I don't have a solution, but I do have a comment.

USB2 ports ARE backwards compatible. You can use your existing cable on either USB1 or USB2 ports.

Firewire. USB2

Either or is my understanding- the scanner will accept either. I can see no need for both.
