Question about Canon PowerShot SD600 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Powers off my canon powershot sd600 digital camera keeps powering off after about 30 seconds. I have gotten a new battery and that didn't help. On the left hand side before it shuts down it has the letter and numbers E18 on the bottom. The zoom lens is also sticking out and will not retract. There are no error messages on the camera at all. If anyone has a solution please let me know. Thanks!

When you told me it was the lens itself, I just pushed it in a little and now it works fine. I can't believe it. I was afraid I would break it if I did anything to it, but to my surprise it worked. I hope it keeps working and maybe if anyone else is as lucky they could try giving it a little push and it will work for them.
    Thanks!

E18 is a lens error message, the lens is stuck or bent, and wouldn't come out, that's why camera shuts off after it tries to do so at the start, not much you can do, but replace the whole lens assembly

That's a great little camera, what you probably have is dirt in the gears or they may have just gotten jammed. A great camera though, Canon did well on the SD600, not like a lot of the other models with the cheaper quality components now. Getting that fixed would require service, so you'll need to find a shop. A place that is excellent for help with the Canon Powershot repairs is www.camerasandparts.com They only service these models and they are excellent in you need to have something like this repaired. They should have your SD600 Lens Error Service available through their site or maybe you can email. There are a few shops but that one is excellent and they just do the Powershots exclusively. Hopefully that will help to look after it. Good luck with the problem you are having with it.

Battery fully charged. but canon powershot sd600

Your problem may be due to worn out batteries or corrosion on the battery contacts inside the camera which can prevent the full power of the batteries from flowing into the camera. Try this free fix before you do anything else: remove the batteries and wipe the camera contacts firmly with a dry cloth (heavy corrosion may require cleaning with a wire brush, steel wool, or sandpaper). Remove any residue that may have fallen into the battery compartment during cleaning, then wipe both ends of the batteries and place them back in the camera. This cleaning clears the problem about 90% of the time. If it doesn't work for you, chances are that your batteries need to be replaced because they're just too worn to properly power the camera. And then, of course, there's the possibility that your camera may have a problem that requires professional repair.

Camera won't power up

You might try cleaning the battery compartment of the camera to make sure that the contacts are not corroded.

My lens wont fully extend

My sister's camera was having the same trouble and after trying a few different things, i came across a solution that fixed her camera. Her error said "lense error, restart camera."

I held down the shutter button for a few seconds, then i held down the power button as well. I tried it once or twice and then it worked. I hope this helps!
