Mine was slow-to-none in ice making for a couple of years. One day for the first time I used the built in water dispenser. The long copper line feeding water was full of air gaps. After I bled that out, it has been perfect ever since.

Problems with ice maker and water dispenser

Sometimes the water line entering the freezer will freeze up, if it is you can melt it with a hair dryer. If that is not it you will need to test the solenoid valve under the refrigerator for power, if so you can remove the water line on the outlet of the valve or the inlet of the water filter, when you push the water lever water should squirt out of the hose, if not the valve is problem bad.

Ice maker works fine but ice will not vend out of the storage bin. Ice freezes in the vending area

Check the door flap where the ice comes out into the dispenser. The number one cause of the ice build up in the dispenser chute is caused from warm air leaking into the freezer and clashing with the freezer air.

If the ice maker no longer make ice, check the following.

Check to see whether the ice maker has been turned off. Here's how to check. Look for a wire along the right side of the ice maker that looks a bit like a coat hanger. If this wire is in the raised position, the ice maker is turned off. On some units you simply lower the wire to the down position to turn the ice maker on.

On others, you lower a small red plastic lever to lower the wire. If the wire is in the proper position check the freezer temperature, it should be between 0-8 degrees Fahranheit. If it is warmer than 10-12 degrees, the ice maker may not produce any ice.

Check your door seals and thermostat, repair/replace as necessary.

Ice maker freezing up

The problem is in the water valve.
The water supply line going to the Ref is connected to a water valve. This valve is not shutting off completely which causes water to drip into the ice maker. This dripping will freeze and eventually completely block the fill tube in the freezer.

Kenmore elite (106.53606202) ice maker will not dispense ice

When you push the ice dispensing lever, you should be able to hear the micro-switch clicking. If no click, the switch is faulty. The auger motor which is activated by the lever could also be faulty. This is the motor that causes the auger in the ice bucket to rotate one way for crushed ice and the other way for cubes. The auger could also be jammed. Try switching between crushed and cubes to unjam the auger. Empty the ice bucket and start again.

George, the ice maker will cycle about every 2.5 hours. Sometimes it takes a couple cycles to prime the lines. You can remove the white cover of the ice maker. On the module you will see two ports, one marked L and another marked V on the left side. Take a insulated jumper wire and jump these two terminals. You are now sending 120V to the valve. See if the water starts coming in. Also make sure the bailing arm is down. back.

Ice maker freezing up

If it is only the fill tube that is freezing up, or getting full of ice, than your water valve is leaking (letting drops of water thru to your ice maker and filling the icemaker fill tube up and freezing). If this is the case, replace the dual water valve (part # 1071263) located in the back of the refrigerator, just follow the water line from your wall into the refrigerator. Make sure you turn off the water to the refrigerator and also unplug it. The dual water valve is the one that has two water lines, one going to the icemaker and one going to the water dispenser. On this model, I think you only have one water valve. On some you have two, the primary water valve and a secondary water valve (the dual valve). If this is your case, I would highly recommend you replace both. As far as the Refrigerator side freezing things up, I think that is a whole different issue. Please post back.
