Problem for Nintendo DS Lite Console

Son's ds lite keeps turning itself off

By claire2908 on Aug 21, 2007

My son's ds lite keeps turning itself off, he charges it and the light goes green but when he tries to turn it on the bottom screen flashes and it goes off, this happens every time now. Would be grateful if anyone has any ideas what could be wrong, it was bought from ebay in Hong Kong so not sure what warranty we have. Thanks

-   Same here. When I turn on my DS Lite, it comes up ok. But, when I am in-game on 'Pokemon Diamond' or any other game, I turns off randomly. Then, about 2 seconds later, it turns back on. If I leave it for about a minute, it turns off again. What could it be?

I have reported this problem to Nintendo and am waiting for a reply. When I do, I tell you what it is...O_o-   aJay3424007

This is a fuse thats blown, usually the F1 fuse. two solutions for this. First is a full motherboard replacement, the second is to "jump" the fuse with a straight wire. The fuses are very small, so if you have no soldering skills (or tools) then you may need to send it in to a repair shop. If you have some technical skills, then you may be able to buy a unit with broken hinges from eBay or half.com as a replacement and change the board your self. It does require some special tools, but your local hardware store should have them for cheap. contact me if you need help.

If the bottom screen flashes and then it shut off, that means the upper top screen cable is broken. You will need to buy a new top lcd screen to replace it. It is very tricky to replace it. It is better off either return it or sell it as is. Thanks.

Just offering a confirmation for #3 - I've been working on a broken DS Lite of my own (the top screen's ribbon tore - long story) and I've got it in pieces right now. I get the exact same problem when the top screen is disconnected, but when I reconnect it (even with a partially-torn ribbon) it works normally. So check the connection, and if that doesn't work, you are going to have to get a new top screen (repairing the cable's pretty much out of the question.)

Try the nintendo support line/trouble shooting webiste.

I've heard on someone on this website who bought a wii off ebay with a defective power cable he called them up and they sent him a new one, free. I havent had any experience with nintendo support but the least you could do is give them a try.

poster of solution #4 is a genius. i tore it apart (it took about 10 minutes) got to the ribbon cable. took it out, reset it and its good to go.

there is a black bar that flips up to remove the ribbon cable. its kind of a pain, but its not too bad with tweezers

also, the spring for the l1 and r1 button is tricky, but overall, not too bad.

thank you all!!

The battery is possably gone bad. If you had it less than a year, then go back to the store and get a new one under warrenty. If you had it more than a year, just plug it in using the DS charger.

Had this problem too. Had just replaced cracked case of my ds lite.

Step 1) Clean the end of the ribbon connector for the top display using an eraser (pink is fine).
Step 2) With the clamp in he up position, gently but firmly place the ribbon back in it slot. Place the clamp down.
Step 3) test.

Cheers, Toby

Solution 4 was correct for me. I took it apart to add a new shell and when reassembled it would turn on (led lit and bottom lit up for second) then turned immediately off. Even though the ribbon looked properly seated, it took 3 times before it was seated properly and now it works like a charm! Hopefully if anyone stumbles on this thread it will give you hope!

This is a common problem. Usially, you'll need a top screen replacement. I know that MPXLIVE got a repair service for theses video games. It cost me 35$ to be fix. I've send it by expreess post and they charge me the same amount that have paid to send it back ( less than 10$). If you live in Quebec city, there's no cost. Can send email to services@mpxlive.com. service in French and English. They also sales parts.

my ds lite keep turning off every time i turn it on, it doesn't want to charge when its plugged in. The battery is fine, but yet it doesn't want to work

My daughters ds lite is 17 months old and started crashing after a bout thirteen months -just after warranty which is blooming typical!! We have found that not opening the top screen fully seems to help -though you do have to hold it at a funny angle to see it - it is cheaper to buy a new one than it is to be repaired -we looked on nintendo site and they want fifty pounds just to look at it!!
