The SSID is not being broadcasted either.

- Sorry. I am connected with the wired connection but can not pick up (see) my wireless. However...I can see other wireless connections. This makes me think the issue is with the router.

- I have walked through the wireless set up. SSID is set up to broadcast. I still can not 'see' the WLAN from my laptops. I will try to upgrade the firmware now. Any instructions for this action?

Mar 24, 2009

- Upgraded the firmware. Set the router back up by going through the wizard. Set SSID to broadcast. Still not able to 'see' the WLAN on my laptops. I am connected with a wired desktop. Could it be possible that the wireless portion of the router is fried?

- Thanks so much for the assistance you have provided. I decided to upgrade from the old Dlink to a new NetGear. All is configured and operable.

Clarification Request

I am not clear what the whole message is saying - could you clarify if it will connect with a wired connection?

You will need to access your Router to setup your wireless connectvity. You can type 192.168.0.1 into your web browseer - you will then be prompted for a username which is - admin and password which will be either blank or - admin or - serial number on bottom side of Router. You then just need to follow the on -screen instructions.

You could also upgrade the firmware for the DLink Router - you can do this here:

- You need to go to the DLink site and download the firmware to a location where you can find it. Then open up your Router & look for the entry Firmware Upgrade in the menus - follow the on-screen instructions

- There are one or two actions you can take:

1. Disable Windows Firewall

2. In Internet Options Control Panel go to the connection tab and then the LAN Settings where you can uncheck the "Automatically detect settings" button.

3. If you have any third party software, I would get rid of this and ensure that the"Windows Zero Configuration" in the Services menu is set to "Automatic" and the status is started.

Interestingly, Anti Virus programs sometimes interfere with wireless set up - you could see if it helps by disabling it whilst configuring your wireless. It might also be worth trying to connect without any encryption code & see if that will connect - you can then sort out the encryption.

- Excellent -I am happy to hrar you are operational once more.Best of luck.

You stated "The SSID is not being broadcasted either." Turn on your SSID broadcast so your computer can see the network and reconnect back to it.
