Question about Compaq Armada 7400 Notebook
Does it work with the dock then? Are there any lights when you plug it in w/o the dock? If when you press the power button anything flashes count the flashes and their frequency. (fast or slow) The only hope you have is to hold down the power button for 10 seconds while battery and power are connected. Then remove power and battery, hold for 10 secs again, but while holding slide in a battery. You should see no lights this time. At that point remove the battery and insert the wall power. Press the power button briefly. (as if you want to turn it on.) It will either turn on or flash the led with the batt light. If it flashes the led, insert the battery. The unit should turn on. This is how a rom power on is performed. If you don't have the latest firmware you may not have this feature. This is all documented on HP's site but they assume everything is actually working. If this gets you nowhere then you have a bad voltage regulartor which on an armada is NOT a separate module and will require a new MLB. (PART#204268-001) Keep in mind I haven't worked at HP since 03 so my parts database software is old. That part# may have been changed because I got the software BEFORE HP bought Compaq. You can call the Compaq parts source (800-652-6672) the direct backdoor is 770-343-5903 (0000 is main desk) or was when I worked there. Did your problems begin after the docking station was burned out, or did it work for a while afterward? It certainly sounds like your motherboard's power array is damaged. Please write back with more specifics about when the problem began.
