for ubuntu open terminal and type -sudo shutdown 0 you can change the 0 if you want. Hope my solution help you!!
next time your computer starts go to a command prompt and type chkdsk/f it will ask you if you want to run chkdsk next time your computer starts ..say yes..and then restart the /f command repairs damaged sectors..that might help..
