Photoshop fail to restart after changing font settings

Hi, I have a problem with photoshop, it won't start after I disabled a few fonts. I was just playing with the setting, there was no actual need for changing the fonts settings. But now photoshop won't even start... Is there a fast solution for this or do I have to remove it and install it again?

Re: Photoshop fail to restart after changing font...

Sometimes adobe has a detect & repair on the menu under 'Help', or go to add/remove programmes and select your programme in the list and on the right where you would select uninstal ther should be an option to repair the installation, but you may need the cdrom.

Hello Dear Friend

I also had some likewise problem, which was solved by Re-installing the Software CS2

If you have the CD, install yourself if you can otherwise contact your hardware/software engineer to re-install it for you and I hope if you are still in trouble, this will solve your problem

Speedup Photoshop CS2 use NexusFont with lots of fonts installed

Adobe Photoshop version CS2 and higher have a font preview option that will serious slow down your application if you have over 1,000 fonts installed in the windows fonts folder, simply uncheck this option in the type preferences.

I suggest that you install Xiles NexusFont FREE font manager to preview the fonts that you might like to use this will allow you to preview the typeface in Bold and Italics.

This way you can have as many fonts that you want installed I have over 5,000 and still have Photoshop running as normal without this little tweak even with a P4 with bags of RAM you will fail.

Its also a good idea to use Microsoft Font Validator in an attempt to find broken fonts this will give you a report on the glyphs and metrics for each suspicious font that you add tot he GUI, if you have over 1,000 fonts leave this running overnight.

Its also a good idea to save the workspace so that you can enter is again later

How to import fonts to photoshop?

  1. Regardless of the source, download the font and save it in a fonts folder on your hard drive.
  2. Step 2 Double-click the fonts folder and choose "File." You should be able to select "Install New Font" at this point.
  3. Step 3 Find the fonts you want to install. They may be on a CD or in a folder on your hard drive. When you download fonts from an online site, save them in a place that is easy to access when you install them in Windows.
  4. Step 4 Highlight the TrueType or OpenType font you wish to install and click "Ok." This will complete the installation. Programs, such as Photoshop will automatically incorporate the new font in the list provided by the program.
  5. Step 5 Go to the start menu and select "Settings." Open your control panel. In Windows XP, the control panel will be in the start menu. There is no need to look for "Settings" first.

Hope this is what you need

Problem with the "type engine"

Here are a couple of things to try. First, try uninstalling and re-installing the application / repairing. Typically, this problem occurs when some cleanup script or other thinks our spelling, hyphenation, or some other type data files aren't needed and deletes them.
If that doesn't work, search for and delete "adobefnt*.lst" files on disk. These are the font cache files and may have gotten corrupted. That's very unusual with more recent versions of Photoshop.
If that doesn't work, it's likely a corrupted font installed - there's a knowledgebase article on finding a corrupted font. You can find that on the Adobe website and follow it.

fonts wont be embedded when converting a document to OCR. You'll have to change fonts & styles manually... sorry but it has to be done this way..
