Question about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX50 Digital Camera

1 Answer

When using the zoom button the cam stops working

I bought the Lumix DMC-FX50 2 weeks ago and it was functioning properly till yesterday, now the problem is that every time I try to zoom in or out the cam stops working and the LCD screen becomes black with a message displayed on it says "PLEASE TURN CAMERA OFF AND THEN ON AGAIN" so I turned it off and on many times and I removed the battery for more than 4 hrs but the problem still persists. Please note that when I use the same zooming button to enlarge the saved pictures and it is working, but if I use it to zoom before taking the shot the whole cam freez. Now I'm taking pictures without zooming otherwise it will stop. Can anyone help solve this problem?

Actually the warranty is not valid in my country as I bought it from abroad, so instead of sending it back with a friend to the dealler I bought it from and get it fixed and then being sent to me back. I thought it might be a matter of a software problem and I can get a solution from some experts from your site.

This suggests the zoom motor has failed. As you only purchased it 2 weeks ago - it should be replaced under warranty

You do not list your location or that fact that you purchased it from some other place
So I cannot comment on that except to say this is a firmware problem and not user fixable.

Well I would suggest it has to go back through the supplier chain for replacement from the importer/Manufacturer's- Somehow

Just bought camera 2 months ago. Now I can't zoom or select anything

It is difficult to diagnose a problem without more details than you provided. However, based on what you said, I would first replace the batteries in the camera...especially if the camera has been left on for a long period of time.

Auto zooming on power up, intermittent problem

Possibly a intermittent connection in the control buttons or the ZIF (Zero Insertion Force) connector from the controls to the main PCB.
Take it in for servicing, they will do a trial by substitution (swap out control) and lubricate the connector.
There isn't really anything you can do to fix with this sort of problem.

Cheers.
