Re: Cracked/broken screen

Find a cheap, used or defective gigabeat posted on ebay, buy it, and take out the LCD and replace your broken one

System error 00200060 NO SYSTEM FOUND ON HDD ona Toshiba MEGF40. I tried firmware upgrade, reformatting but not working hellp me

Okay, here's what you need to do. I'm assuming at some point yours like mine was formatted under windows. This is bad for them lol. Locate your copy of gigabeat room, and install it. This comes with a extra program in the start menu titled formatting utility for gigabeat. Format with this program, and then look under program files/toshiba/gigabeatroom/GBsystem. Copy GBsystem to the gigabeat, then turn the battery off with the switch on the bottom for thirty seconds. That should do it.

This can only be done with a computer running USB 1.0. My newer computers could not "see" the gigabeat properly. I used an old machine with outdated USB to get mine to work again :) you can also check for aftermarket firmware called Rock Box, just installed that one mine, no more converting music to *.sat, it'll take straight mp3s now just like it should :) uploaded 20 gigs to it in less than half an hour :) beats the hell out of waiting ten hours for 8 gigs lol!

Gigabeat S Series firmware restore

I just solved the same problem yesterday. When you download the firmware, save it to yur desktop and burn a CD because the gigabeat won't get it unless there is an actual CD in the rom.

Now, connect the gigabeat to the computer and let the firmware install. The unit will automatically restart twice. Here's the tricky part. You have to hold down the start button on the device until you see the start screen. (It took awhile for me to figure that out!)

After I saw the start screen, I saw that all my files were there! YAY

Broken Display Screen

Sometimes you can find them on eBay, but they are expensive. I bought a used S30 and put the guts of my S60 in it, to overcome the same problem.

It is also very, very difficult to change the screen. Trust me. Buy an old one, which has a good screen but some other fault.

You could, of course, just change the hard drive and use the rest of the new one...

Gigabeat frozen!

Hi Lorna, Yeah I found my Gigabeat froze a few different times when I was getting used to it. Solution: at the bottom of player there is a little battery on/off switch - its tiny and black but you would have needed to switch it on to first use it. Well turn it off here for 10 seconds and the on again. This removes all power from the hard drive and circuits which occassionally freeze. Hope that helps

Gigabeat 40GB screen frozen

well, it would be really easy to take off the battery. The battery is simply plugued with a little 3-pin wire, u just pull on it and put it back in. Now to open that gigabeat, its pretty easy. I even got some images for u. Go at this website (its for the F10 and u have the F40, but its the same thing):
