Viper remote start 01 ford explorer.. will only start w/remote

What makes you think you have Remote Start on your MYSTERY vehicle. It sounds like you don't.

On an OEM Installation, it comes with the vehicle and you get a special remote. On aftermarket remote starters you have a separate remote.

problem is the low battery
have it load tested and charged up or replaced
remote or key still use the same bad battery

you push the ******(star)******* to start it .if it is not starting but starts with a key either wires have come off of remote starter or the remote starter has gone bad.

Ok. You don't tell us what year, make, or model the truck is, but I'm assuming it is a later model. They all come with integrated alarm and immobilizer systems installed. If you did not get an aftermarket adapter to disable the factory alarm system, then if the vehicle is started without the key it will shut off and alarm after 30 seconds. Once you used the key, you satisfied the manufacturers alarm system and then your remote start worked. You need to get a module specifically designed for your vehicle and alarm system to use with the Viper to make it work. They can be a real pain to get working correctly. Good luck!

I have a solution, since this keeps happening to me. Go to Bestbuy, buy a 2 way remote for the 5701, they're $55. return the old one. The new one should work after you program it. follow the directions on the back of the box.

If you use the viper remote to arm the alarm, you MUST use the viper remote to disarm the alrm prior to opening the door. The only REAL solution is to add the keyless entry feature to the viper system, and quit using hte factory remote all together.

There should be a Valet/emergency override switch, you must turn the key to the on position and switch the switch ... the LED should come on solid, try that, if no go .... Call the people who installed the system ... it is malfunctioning .... If you have RF key ... it may be being interfeared with buy the security override system that is required to remote start the car ...
