How do I record information, shut the recorder off then go back to the same spot and continue recording information so that all the information is all together?

Most digital voice recorders, have a filing system. It is usaully labeled either: A, B, C, D or 1, 2, 3, 4 (these are the main folders) and each of these folders contains a set amount of files (in most cases about 99 subfolders). So you can have folder A file 1, 2, 3 and so on... When pressing the RECORD button for the first time you are in one of the main folders and your recording gets a sub folder number. To continue recording where you left off last time or where 'stopped' use the PAUSE and not the STOP function. The moment you press STOP instead of PAUSE you will change the sub folder number - and therefore not have one continous recording. If you turn the power off or remove the batteries you will also change the sub folder number. Most of the better recorders have a voice activation function that places the recorder on pause automatically when there are no sounds. It will not change the sub folder number when it starts recording again - and will automatically pick up where it left off.

I have a brand new THOMSON XC0380 Voice recorder. I cannot locate any file containing the "setup" process as described in the instructions. Folder A has a .VOC file that opened contains nothing...

The Thomson voice recorders appear to be the same as those of an RCA series. There is a software download for a 512MB RCA VR5220 recorder that might work on your 64MB one at, or you might find something useful elsewhere on the rca site.

Olympus ds 40 can't display recorded voice folders on pc

There are a total of eight folders in the recorder that are in a tree format. Under the “Root” folder
are “Folder A” through “Folder E”, “Audible” and “Music” folders, and recorded or transferred
Language and music data from a computer can be saved as “files”. “Folder A” through “Folder E”
are voice-recording folders, so choose one of these five folders when recording on this recorder.
Up to 200 files can be saved in each folder, and up to two layers can be created within the “Music” folders.

Click the large square button to the left to start the DVE software.

Select the item you want to transcribe from the PC window on the right side.
Click on File from the tool bar.
Select the Voice Recognition menu item.
The Converting.. Dialog box opens.

Unable to transfer recording from File B

All files should be set for transfer when using the Olympus software.  There is a way you can check folder B in my computer by locating the program folder where the olympus software resides.  If folder B is empty, the recording could have landed in A, C, or D folder.

Olmpus Digital Wave Machine Files

In the program folders of your computer is a folder called Olympus. In that folder, there are four folders for audio files. They correspond to the audio folders you have on you voice recorder. Each file is save with a time a date stamped file name. The files should be saved as wavetable file or wav. These files can be played using windows media player and can be emailed under most cases as well provided the file size for the attachment is acceptable to the recipients e-mail address.

Usually what I have to do is link the folders using ITues. Then files can be synched and converted to mpeg3. That way if someone wants to listen to them on an Ipod or any other mp3 player there easy to transport.

Let me know what you find.
