Canon MP620B loud grinding noise, yellow light comes on....should shut down and start again, but problem persists....it will not copy or print.

The lights on the printer-copier are flashing-green and yellow - The message tells me - Printer error has occurred. Turn off power then back on again. If problem persists. see the manual. I have no manual-- that's why I'm contacting you. The noise it makes is very loud--like a "machine gun" ..I have turned it off and on again, but nothing improves...the lights are flashing green then yellow, then green, then yellow...etc. HELP!

SOURCE: green and orange lights flashing, sign saying

Hi You can Try 2 things.

There is some foreign object blocking your cartridges carriage that disables it from moving. Generally when this happens, something has fallen into the printer, or a piece of paper has been jammed in there.

First step, remove the ink cartridge, and turn the printer upside down and gently shake it, see if anything comes out.

If nothing goes, or you can't hear anything rattling around, get a piece of cardstock paper (60lb or heavier) and gently push this through the printer, to see if it will help push out what might be stuck in there

Next try.

It may be a piece of paper or a scotch tape or a staple wire.
Solution 1:
Clean the timing strip.

Solution 2:
The purge cap (the white sliding mechanism that the print head parks to when it's not in use) may be not lubricated well enough .

Lubricate the sliders with some white grease (don't get it on the small wipers or the black caps); this repair probably require to remove the right panel off of the printer to gain access to the purge mechanism.

SOURCE: Error message 6A00 says:

Hi there

This answers with a titch more detail.
The 6A00 is a Canon generic code for paper path jam.

Some where in the paper path a sensor is activated indicating paper jam so the printer will give off a 6A00 code.
As a Canon tech, I usually find the code, almost 90% of the time, is related to the purge unit being jammed with something and not being able to move.
Moving the print head assembly will not clear a purge unit if its jammed with paper, paper clips, push pins, screws, cookie crisp, flower bud pods or the like.

And yes I have found all those things in a purge unit.
The offending item needs to be removed or the purge unit needs replacement.
Incidentally, the 6A00 error pertains to all Canon printers made in the last several years, its not just used in one model.

And it’s always a paper path error or purge unit.

The purge unit, called a spittoon assembly in an HP, Lexmark, and other inkjet printers, is where the print head assembly parks when not in use, also its other job is to clean and make sure the print head is clean and open for printing.

That is where you'll find the print head assembly parked on top of it.
It also has an electrical pump to milk the print heads and test for ink flow.

So clean all under where the heads are parked and on IP6600D models you can take out the heads just by clipping them out, and then clean well.

Also clean the purge unit out make sure all is clean.

I have A Canon Pixma MP-530 Printer,Fax,Copy Machine that's a couple of years old. It recently started making some weird loud grinding noises although it's still functioning okay. Would anyone know what...

best bet would be to wait till it blows up or even purchase another now so when it does go out you dont have to wait long but maintenance on a machine of that age is always gonna be more costly than finding a new one

hope this helps

Canon PIXMA 530 grinds away

I had a persistant grinding noise about 30 seconds after the printer finished printing. It's been going on about 2 months. I did one thing which seemed to work. So try opening the cover on the back of the machine by lifting upward on the gray lever in the middle of the back of the machine. Leave this cover open during and after printing. The grinding noise went away.

This seemed to fix the problem.....for me anyway.....for now.
