Nothing will get rid of black mold

I have the Neptune front loading washer for about 5 years now and nothing will get rid of that black mold around the drum. I've tried cleaning it with bleach but nothing helps. The inside also stinks. I wash all my cleaning rags in hot water with bleach and that doesn't get rid of the odor either. If I leave the door open as suggested, then the readouts stay lit reminding me that the door is open. I'm afraid they will burn out and one of my animals get in there. I had heard they had a class action lawsuit for this problem but I was never aware of it till it was too late.

    I will try that. Thanks!

I don't want to have a service man come out because he will charge me and I don't think I should have to pay for a defective item.  I was not informed of the class action lawsuit, therefore, I don't think I should have to fork out any money.

I also have a front-loading Neptune washer. My towels and clothes have such a bad smell when they get wet that people comment on it when they visit. I did not get in on the lawsuit. How much does the new part with the drain tube in the bottom cost. The repair visit to my house is a minimum of $95.00 before they do anything. I have already replaced two mother boards in the first two years I had the machine. Never Maytag again.

Yes, I have the same problem. Not only did it happen on the first one I bought, but on the second one as well!! Fool me once...I will not buy another Maytag! One salesman told me to do an "empty wash" using vinegar. It helped for a day or so. Now the smell is as bad as ever.

I have the same problem and I also wasn't contacted by Maytag Called maytag before they were bought by Whirlpool and they said Oh Well you missed the deadline.

I had this disgusting problem - shared by all makes of front loaders - and learned from a chemist on line:
1) Use only HE detergent.
2) Use a TINY (TINY!) amount of detergent.
I use about a tablespoon = 2 short pumps on the Tide dispenser. It is sufficient to totally clean the clothes without feeding the black mold. You will be surprised. The chemist described how a tiny amount does all that is necessary to rearrange the molecules to make dirt magnets. The detergent manufacturers encourage overuse. Are the machine manufacturers wary of reducing the profits of their partners in the laundry biz? All the excess detergent just pollutes freshwater after having served no purpose except to feed the mold.
3) Leave the door slightly ajar at all times for air circulation. I use the plastic cup lid from the liquid detergent as a prop.
4) I thoroughly cleaned with citric acid (Glisten for dishwasher cleaning) and though it is still somewhat stained, there is no active growth.
5) With all the above precautions, I do not have to be constantly cleaning the gasket. (I predominantly use cold water washes. No need to waste water doing super hot no-clothes washings.)
6) Once the gasket is cleaned and the drum is washed out, you will have a new lease on enjoying your high efficiency machine. It took me a while to have faith that the slime and mold would not grow back, especially since I was NOT doing all the special treatments often recommended. I just made the microbial environment too dry and didn't feed them surplus detergent. Doing laundry is simpler than ever and far less negative for my septic system.

I had same problem with my Nepturne washer. Repairman came to house to repair circuit board and mentioned there was a recall on rubber gasket. He replaced with new gasket that has a drain hose on bottom (where water stands) and resolved problem.

Make a boil wash (with no clothes and detergents) put in the powder's drawer a cup of bicarbonate of soda. It should clean the machine and move out the bad smell. Good luck!

Neptune washer front door seal has black build up

Try pouring a cup full of distilled white vinegar into the soap dispenser drawer while it is filling up on a hot wash. Don't put any washing in, just let the machine go through the full cycle. Repeat if necessary.

You may be able to scrub lightly affected areas of the door seal with a scourer or old toothbrush etc. and something like Jiff. To be on the safe side you should wear goggles and a mask when dealing with black mold.

It may be worth trying a black mold remover available from supermarkets but read the instructions to make sure it is safe to use on rubber if intending to use it on the door seal. If badly affected - the only way to get rid of it - is to replace the door seal.

I have been struggling with the same issue for a long time. Regular bleach and mold-killing products did not work. But I just tried Clorox "Washing Machine Cleaner" and was amazed. I scraped off the loose mold from the rubber gasket and then painted on the product, which is thicker than bleach. After about 20 min. I scrubbed it down with water and painted a second coat on the tough areas. No more mold. I also ran some through the machine per the instructions for good measure and ran another rinse cycle. I am in no way connected to Clorox, but I am so happy to be rid of this problem. Good luck. <!-- from fixya rte -->

Black mold on washer door seal

this is a very common problem with the neptune washers.
use a javex and hot water solution and scrub the rubber boot.
you should also do an acid wash. (hot wash with bleach, and no clothes) if there is mold on the boot it is inside the washer as well.

There is a way to prevent this. when the washer is not in use, hang a small towl on the washer door, and do not close the door.
this will allow for air movement in the washer

Maytag front loader washing machine. Mould

How old is the washer? Did you try straight bleach on a towel and placed over the "mold" spot for about 5 minutes, be sure to wear gloves. Then scrub with a small brush being careful not to splatter bleach on yourself and rinse well. May need to replace the seal. I always leave the door cracked open after every use to "dry" out the inside and the boot. I also leave the drawer pulled out when not in use for that area to dry out as well. I have never had mold on the door seal of my Neptune washers, only the water holes above the dispenser drawer.
