You can switch to an external monitor or data projector by two methods. 1. Connect the external monitor to the laptop's video port, power up the external monitor first and the laptop. The video information will automatically switch to the external monitor. 2. If you power up the laptop first then you can switch the video output to the external monitor by pressing the Fn key and one of the Function keys, depending upon your make and model laptop. You can also toggle between the external monitor or both LCD screen plus the external monitor or back to LCD screen only by pressing the Fn key plus one of the function key a few times. Here is a list of key combinations for some of the laptops :- IBM ThinkPad = Fn + F7 HP and Compaq = Fn + F4 Toshiba = Fn + F5 Dell = Fn + F8
if your "F" function keys are a second function of the keys they are on there will be a key, usally located in the area of the lower left corner of your keyboard. If the "F" functions are in color, so will the key that activates them. The idea is that you hold down the Fn key while striking the selected "F" key
Did you mean you want to connect your computer to a TV? If you did and connected it but nothing happened then you may have to select the correct input on the TV remote. It used to be called AV but some of them have a little picture of a screen with and arrow pointing in to it from the left. You just switch your TV on, switch your computer on, then press the button on the remote a few times until you get the PC input picture. You may also have to hold the Fn key on the computer and press one of the keys with a Monitor / TV screen symbol on it. It maybe one of the Function keys or one of the number keys at the top of the keyboard.
Take the external monitor cable install it on the laptop external port then hit the function key (FN) together with the ext. monitor symbol on the keyboard. It's usually on one of the F keys.
you have an ext monitor connection which you can use another monitor or get s-video lead and connect to a tv.
use fn + f4(or f key that has little square icon printed on it)
this combination switches from laptop screen to ext screen/tv
try monitor switching first...fn + f4 usually but look at f key for one with square box icon on it this will be the key so press fn key and that key together.
press together once pc to ext monitor twice pc and ext monitor 3 times back to pc only.
also check vga card(graphics card) if graphics card faulty screen wont come on (some times only needs reseating properly.
You have to tell the laptop to use that port. It is usually the Function Key and one of the FKeys. Look for a blue (the usual color for functions) monitor symbol.
Press it 1 time = signal to only the ext port 2 times = both the laptop screen and the ext port 3 times = back to the laptop screen only
