Canon i950 printing many blank strips/areas where text should be

my canon i950 is printing many blank strips/areas where text should be, on both color and black only prints. Mostly I just print in b&w, but this problem started several months ago with color issues: everything was printing pinkish. So many times since September, I have tried to use the regular and deep cleaning maintenance functions, but with no luck. A week ago it started printing the random blank are strips. Today after reading posts on your website, I tried Aligning the Print Head command for the first time. Slightly more ink coming out on the 3 clogged colors, but the blank strips continue. What can I do?

It's a 5 or 6-year old printer...is it dead? How long do home color printers usually last anyway?
