May hav burn a shift solenoid--put car on a scanner--local parts place does it for free--nomerical codes will show and explained in a manual--but bfore replacin a part a more detailed scan shud b performed

sounds like the selector box at fault but change the auto oil and filter with some treatment and this should solve youre problem

You need to check the transmission fluid level, if it is low the tranny will not shift. If, however, the fluid is to the proper level then you will need a new transmission.
Try putting new fluid in and look for a leak in the pan gasket, then all you may need is a transmission service. When the service is done the mechanic will look for pieces of metal in the old fluid, if found this is very bad and you will need a new tranny.
You might consider a new or used car, you can definately find a good deal out there!

do u have any trouble codes for the trans? u need to find out to see if a shift solenoid (possible 2-3) has failed.
SOURCE: transmission won't shift to 2nd and 3rd gears goes from 1st to 4th.
Doesn't sound like a simple fix. I would suggest having it serviced.

manual transmission correct? 1,3,5 work by pulling on a cable attached to the transmission. 2,4,R work by pushing on a cable attached to the transmission. you have a shift cable problem. whatever is supposed to push the shifter cable is not working. it also could be a problem where the shift cable mounts to the levers on the transmission. do a good visual inspection of the cables where they attach to the transmission while somebody attempts to shift into 2 or 4.

Hi Arnie, Thanks for your reply where would i find the shift solenoid?
-its in the pan area-bottom of trans--need to test with a scan--if fluid is dirty-drain it and add some new-solenoid may recover
