My HL5140 will not print even the test page

My HL-5140 has been working fine until it gave me the signal that my toner was low. I replace the cartridge and it printed just one page, then never print again.

The green light was always on. When I hit the Print button, it just stay on green and does nothing. I tried to go to the Printer properties and hit the Print Test Page; still nothing happened! What is wrong? I'd appreciate any suggestions.

May be also possible that the drivers files have corrupted or gone missing.best thing to do initially is reinstalling the printer drivers again and check wether it solves this problem.

How do you get a page count from an HL 5140/

On the HL-5140, you can print out a config page which will show the page count on it by pressing down the Go button (the blue button). Hold it for a few seconds, until the config page starts to print out.

To find configuration page instructions and page count tips for other printers, copiers, and fax machines, check out How to Print Configuration Pages.

Brother HL5140 won't print

Sadly this happens all the time - we have about 12 of these printers and 2 have the same problem at this moment and the only fix we have found previously is to replace the drum unit with a brand new one which is hardly economical - indeed the machines are all NHS funded and often the solution has been to throw the printers with this problem away and we have a few defunct ones piled in a corner because of this - if anyone knows why and how this happens ( the tech dept locally has no ideas but just wupply an new printer as they are cheap) I would be very interested also - changing the drum and cartride to a partly used one from a different machine does nothing at all either so it has to be something to do with the chip in the new drum resetting the machine but how and why is beyond us. In every case the printer prints perfectly before the fault and after the change to a new drum so I can only assume it is a way of generating more drum sales??

Ghosting on prints

Wrong paper type can cause this, also if it is damp or too thick. Also check that you have the correct type of paper (thickness) selected in the driver. Ghosting can also be caused by a faulty drum unit, since you just replaced it maybe there is warranty left on it?.

Good luck!

MY brother HL-5140 quits printing, and also has a black vertical line down the page before it quits. After a while, say 30 to 45 minutes, it will start printing again. But there are black smudges on the...

Sounds like a fusing error ... If your able to wipe the toner off the page its a fuser unit problem (replace fuser unit) If toner is sticking to paper but the print quality is poor , replace the drum unit  (PCU)  good luck

Tonner flashing HL-5140- will not print at all, drivers are good

If you have the user manual look on page 3-1 for Control Panel. The different patterns of on/off/blinking lights indicate what the problem is. If the toner is flashing and status is green, your toner is low and should be replaced....

If you don't have the user manual it is at this link:
