How to recover data from transcend hdd when not appearing in disk management and not showing under my computer. system detects it first with clicking sound but after sometime error appears as device d

Use hirens boot disc look for programme in hard disc tools called test will check and repair mft which should then allow the drive to be seen and then fix errors.failing that route try and get spin right which will fix bad blocks.

Hard disk is not readable, detectable however

Providing you don't need any data on it. You can run a HDD test to help determine the problem. More then likely you have a bad read head/armature/motor/spindle plate/driver board. If you hear no sounds at all and it doesn't seem that drive is spinning at all.. a good chance it's the driver board gone bad. If you hear a scraping or clicking noise then it could be that armature/read head. In any case unless you need data recovered it's usually not worth fixing. It's highly recommended to backup all your data periodically. Running used drives on a desktop system, in a RAID configuration is always a good cheap choice that has data reliability.. if one drive fails simply replace it with another cheap used drive.. and since the drives are mirrored no data should be lost. If you want to continue to test it with a HDD program that can check the S.M.A.R.T feature of the HDD and other attributes.. it can give you a lot of information about what might be wrong.. if any major errors are found (large amount of bad sectors, etc.) it's not recommended to continue using the drive as the risk for future failures will be extremely high even if you manage to get it formatted.

Welcome to Fixya!

Firstly we will need to establish is the hard drive spindle is actually spinning up. Can you hear it spinning up?

Does the hard drive make a clicking sound?

Let me know any feedback in regards to the above.

If you do hear a clicking noise, it is not good news.

Let me know by means of a comment.

Kind regards

Samsung HDD does not get detected any more. I have very important data and want the data to be recovered at worst case. HDD is old one and makes strange sound when connected. Even if I connect it in...

Try to connect it as a master. Just connect this hdd only, so we can know if is detected in the bios. If yes then there's a possibility that you can recover your data. If you hear clicking noise/strange sounds then there's also a big chance that your hdd is broken. If it is detected in the bios, then remove it again and try using an external casing so you can put this hdd in it and connect it to your pc thru usb. I assume that your hdd is an ide and not sata since it's old as you say. Then to go to windows and see if your hdd in external casing is detected. Another option is that if it is detected in the bios, use a bootable cd with software apps for Hard disk tools like HDD Regenerator or HDAT2 to check and repair bad sectors on your hdd. Use this at your own risk and may destroy all data on your hard drive. If noe of this works, then you can assume that your HDD is not functioning anymore.

St3160827as seagate hdd is not detecting in bios , other new seagate hdd is working fine with the same connection(sata cable and power card) I have imp data in that hdd ,pls help me how to get data...

Turn your computer off.
Disconnect the power cord.
Disconnect all other disk-drives and CD/DVD drives, leaving only the "suspect" drive connected.
Restart your computer, and enter BIOS SETUP, and see if the drive is detected, and how it is connected (primary/secondary, master/slave).

Read the model-number and serial-number and manufacture-date on the disk's label,
and access Seagate's web-site, to check the warranty-status of the drive.
If the warranty is valid, Seagate will replace the drive, at minimal cost to you.

Search online for a professional "data recovery service". For a significant fee, they can repair your disk-drive, just long-enough to copy your files to a new disk-drive.

Hard drive does not operate

1, switch off computer
2. remove side (usually two screws on the back held it)
3. remove and then re-insert power cable from hdd
4. remove and re-insert data cable, from hdd as well as from m/b
5. start computer and hold your fingers on the top of the affected hdd, if you feel vibrations, this meant that driver is spinning and therefore rescue can be attempted at home.
6. research and purchase hdd recovery software, follow it's instruction and save data on another medium, be it another hdd or cd's dvd's.

if there is no spin, recovery is still possible but in specialist lab and will cost more money....

always back-up your data, second hdd is much cheaper than data recovery from existing one...

Seagate ST3500630AS SATA 500 GB hard Drive

You will have to send it to a data recovery company in order to retrive the data sounds like the circuit board failed therefore the drive is not receiving power.Usually if this board is good you would hear the drive spin up.
Good luck

Western Digital Hard Drive AAK5000

Your HDD motor or PCB (on the HDD) blew
IF it is the PCB, you can jot down the numbers on the connector (look for this pattern: xxxx-xxxxxx-xxx-xx) and googlee for it. If you are lucky, someone selling a WD Caviar Blue WD5000AAKB - hard drive - 500 GB - ATA-100 will look at their PCB and see if the revisions match. BUY the HDD!!
You now have a 50/50 chance to get the HDD working again.....
IF the motor blew, you WILL hose the new board, and end up with 2 bad drives
IF the PCB blew, it might just surprise you and work. I have used this trick to recover data for $$$ on 8,20,60,80,160,200,and 250 WD drives that were out of warranty. Good Luck

The other option is IF the motor went bad, and you will certainly know if you see burned chips on the back of the PCB or hear a loud POP when you try the new one... You only have 3 choices.

1. Send the HDD off to a Data Recovery $ervice (No guarantee here)
2. Send it to WD for a warantee replacement (and forever lose your data)
3. Take off the HDD cover, bridge the Positioner, DO NOT TOUCH anything in there and Manually spin the HDD Platter spindle to EXACTLY 3500 or 7200rpm (depending on drive) with a tiny speed-controlled motor and a tachometer, then plug it into ext USB bridge and your PC and if the motor drive is the ONLY thing bad, the speed sense will engage, and the heads will load and you will have ~20min-2hr before the HDD dies due to contamination of the heads and platters(dust, smoke, pet hair,, human skin flakes, moisture and oxygen) so grab the essential files quick! I recommend Total Commander (Hilight all you NEED (not want - there isnt time) and drag to copy. PRACTICE TC on a good HDD. If you miss a file or folder, you will have to cancel and redo, or wait until all others highlighted are done first. Make a list - stick to it.

I have done this 5-6x so far. Several old Seagate and Maxtor 80Gb and for the larger, I Built a mini clean room, complete with forced filtered heat (hairdryer pulling its air thru a HEPA filter. for motor, I Used an expensive German variable speed dremel-like tool and cheap tach from Harbor Freight.

Good Luck!

HDD from dropped laptop

Could it be a power issue? Some older laptop HDs need more power than one USB port can provide and won't spin up properly. If you have a cable with your HD enclosure which had two USB connectors on the end, make sure you plug both into ports on your laptop.

When they don't spin up correctly, you tend to hear them clicking as they try to spin & then cut out. Have a listen to it when you plug it in & see what you can hear.

Check the jumper settings on the back of the drive, if this is the primary HD, set it to master, if secondary, set it to slave, if secondary still does not recognize, switch the ide cable so that the two drives are not on the same one.
