Screen goes blank, sound still on

If the picture shows a picture briefly upon power up then goes off after a few seconds, you have a back light fault. It could have a problem in the 24vdc circuit, failing back light inverter board, or a blown CCFL lamp.

Please folliow the below steps one by one

Step 1: Turn on the TV

Step 2: Hold the ON/OFF Button for 10 to 20 Secs

Step 3:Without taking the hand from the ON/OFF button unplug the power cable connected to the wall outlet from the TV

Step 4:Without taking the hand from the ON/OFF button put the power cable back to the outlet

Step 5:Now take the hand from the ON/OFF Button and try to turn it ON again and check

Check by changing the Power cable to any other wall outlet in your home

Even after that you are facing the same issue please check with the Display Card in the TV,

Not sure how long it has been since you replaced your lamp, but it may be time.
You should always have a spare on hand for this reason.

Hi,
I found the problem was related to the lamp. Your TV power up but then the lamp would overheat and automatically shut down (audio and video) resulting in a dark screen with no sound. Once the lamp cooled (30 - 60 secs) it would come back on. Then overheat, turn off - recycling "eternally". A new lamp will solve the problem

replace the lamp only takes few min make sure you get right one for model of tv the LAMP MODEL number will be on OLD LAMP the tv will work and sound will come back hope this helps

Those lights flashing mean the lamp is the issue. You need to test it with a meter. If the lamp tests ok then it may be the ballast is bad and that is what powers the lamp.

Its most likely an intermittent lamp. The lamp door is located behind the front panel. The front panel can be removed after loosening the two thumb wheels located on either end of the TV in the rear. Observe the light coming from the area around the lamp door. If you see that the light is going out, its the lamp. You can also access the self-diagnosis menu by using the remote control. Start with the TV off. Push the "mute", then the number 5 button, and then the volume down button followed by the power button. When the picture appears, the menu will been visable. If there is a failure with the lamp, or a fan, or many other areas in the TV there will be a number value to the right of the parameter that indicates the number of times the error has occurred.

All symptoms in your TV shows that you need to replace its Lamp as it has been consumed its life hours and TV requires new lamp. Lamp can be obtained from Sony Website. Price is $200, Hope this info will help you to enjoy your Sony TV in coming days.

Comment by Guest, posted on Oct 25, 2008My Aquos has the same problem. I'm not sure how I discovered this, but when I lean the TV forward and hit the power button it will turn on every time. If the screen blacks out and I don't lean it forward when I hit the power button, the screen will just remain blank. It is very weird, but at least repeatable.
