Re: I cannot see my lacie drive on my destop

Take a look here, problems are explained- unfortunately they don't suggest any easy fixes. These external drives, according to this site, and my own limited experience, are merely a standard drive in a housing with the proper adaptive circuitry for USB/Firewire connection. A couple of possibilities: open the housing, check the connections to the drive. I've seen one drive where the IDE interface cable wasn't seated properly. If you have some tech savvy, you could remove the drive and hook it up in a standard desktop PC, then see if it can be accessed. If what the above link explains is the problem with your drive, a simple solution looks bleak. You might also look on the 'net for drive diagnostic software. If you do open the case, note the drive brandname (Western Digital, Maxtor etc) and go to their respective website and download their diag. software. Unfortunately, none of this may help you get your data.

When I put my mac in sleep mode and restart it I get a message that says I have not put my lacie hard drive away right. How do you do that.

The message you are getting is refering to removing the Lacie before disconnecting it.

Just as you eject a drive before unplugging the cables to prevent corruption you must do the same before going to sleep as turning off the power to your USB ports(which happens in sleep mode) is no different than unplugging the drive without ejecting the drive when the computer is running.

If your Mac is set to go to sleep and save power when it is not in use then you should only plug your Lacie in when you are using it and should eject the Lacie before going to Sleep.

Failure to do so will eventually result in a loss of data.

If you have already lost data from a Mac formatted Lacie drive then you should refer to the below link for assistance in recovering your files, if not simply follow the above steps and you should not have any problems as a result of your Mac going to Sleep.

Hope this helps FixYa,

My computer is not recongnizing my Lacie F.A. Porsche 250GB Hard Drive.I have tried to connect it to several computers. It also was making a wierd sound but it has stopped now.I can be emailed at chrls...

What operating system are you using? Is it windows XP or Vista? Or is it a mac?

If its under Windows, try to assign a different letter name to the drive. Go to My Computer, right click and then hit Disk Management. Locate the Lacie drive and then right click, and then choose Assign a letter name.

Let me know how it goes after you have done the steps above.

PC no longer recognises LaCie drive

Hi Katya!
There are several possible causes for this. You didn't specify if you're running Windows or Mac so I apologize in advance if some of the information I provide does not apply.
  1. If you recently performed a Windows Update, there's a patch to fix your issue;
  2. There is a firmware upgrade for your external hard drive. It is located here:
  3. If the above solutions don't solve your problem, you may try uninstalling the device and reinstalling it. This should clear any communications errors it may have
I do hope I was able to solve your issue. I wish you the best of luck.

Deference Lacie d2 Quadra1TB/Lacie big disk ?

It's all about the interfaces.
The Quadra has four interfaces: • eSATA • FW 400 • FW 800 • USB 2.0
The triple has all but the eSATA interface listed above.
For doing video work you want a big drive with a fast interface. If you have eSATA available then that's the fastest. If you don't then you're just as well off to go with the triple interface. The FW 800 would be the next fastest, then the USB 2.0, then the FW 400.
Because of the way that data is transferred I believe that when doing video work you would be best served by the FW 400 instead of the USB 2.0 even though the USB is faster I don't believe it is a full duplex communication so the FW 400 is actually better for video.

Lacie drive won't mount

I solved the problem. It was a power supply problem. It seems after searching boards on the net, this is a common problem with the lacie hard drives. Just replace the power if your hard drive is clicking and not mounting. I think many people must be throwing the drives away thinking they are lost when it is just the power supply. Try this first before trashing it or spending a lot of money on data recovery programs/

Drive mysteriously went from 250GB to 55MB!?

Hi, It would seem that the LaCie(300770) 250 GB Hard Drive would need partitioning and not only formatting to be able to recover the missing space. This is better explained by Microsoft Support . Alternately, you can right click on "My Computer, click on Manage, click on Disk Management, right click on the Lacie drive and delete its current partition. Ok or Apply, Windows may ask you to reboot. Do the Disk Management again. If the Lacie's original/erroneous partition has been successfully deleted, it will now show as "Unknown Partition". To create your new partition, right click on the unallocated space (black stripe on top), click on "New Partition" on the menu. To format, simply right click on the Lacie and click on Format. As a matter of choice, I prefer to use Partition Magic and/or Seatools for Windows. If using any of the above method and the Lacie will not partition/format or errors keep on appearing, it may be that the Lacie is no longer usable as a whole. Hope this be of some help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need further information. Good luck and kind regards.
