This does not sound like driver based issue, but rather a printer issue. Did you go to the website of the printer manufacturer and use their install program for your OS? Not all printers will work with newer OS....and Plug and play should be avoided when installing printers, some stuff will not work correctly.

Installing Fuji Xerox Docuprint 203a on Windows 7.. Hey all.. this is gonna sound so stupid but ive plugged the usb in and i cannot install the driver.. please can someone give me a step by step on how to...

"x86 PCL Windows 7 Driver" if you have downloaded this zip file from Xerox, you have to unzip the file to any folder first. (You can any "Zip" application tools to extract the files to any folder.)

Plug in your USB Printer, power on and the printer wizard will appear and just browse to the folder location you have just extract and windows will locate the necessary drivers files and install the printer.

Hope it helps.

Installing printer in Linux

Manually Installing a New Locally Connected Printer and Printer Driver When Ubuntu detects a printer it will automatically select a driver if the printer is recognized and a driver is available. To manually add a printer, begin by clicking on the New button in the Printer configuration toolbar. A Please Wait. Searching for Printers dialog will appear as the system is scanned for a locally attached printer. Once the search is complete, the New Printer Wizard dialog will appear including an entry for each detected printer. In the following figure, Ubuntu has detected an HP DeskJet printer connected to a USB port:

Select the desired locally connected printer from the list in the left hand panel and click the Forward button to select the appropriate printer driver. On the resulting screen select the printer manufacturer and choose the model from the list. Click on the Forward button to install the appropriate driver for the printer:

Once the printer driver matching the printer has been selected, click the Forward button and enter the optional printer description and location information. You should be returned to the Printers dialog where your new printer should be listed.
Once the driver is installed you are ready to try out the printer. In the Printers dialog select your printer, right click with the mouse to pop up the menu and select Properties. Click on Print Test Page to send a test page to the printer.
