If the counter needs resetting you should have an error message saying that "parts inside your printer have reached the end of life" (If not then it is NOT the waste ink counter). If so then your first call is to the Epson Support site:
http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/InkPadsForm.jsp

You could also try third party utility's such as this one:
http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml

Hope this helps, please take a moment to rate this solution. Thanks

Why my epson stylus c 67 ink and paper flashing alternately and cannot print, printer occured a problem

Look at this link for the app to reset the waste pad ink counter, and the video helps too; remeber to clean your waste ink pad because it can spill ink to your desk in a extreme case; you need to open your printer to clean the waste ink pad; search for instructions online.
PD: I have reset my counter six times and cleaned the waste ink pad two times; after six years I keep using my printer correctly.

When i turn on the printer all the lights are blinking, i have reset the printer many times, restarted my computer and nothing has worked to help the problem. I just printed yesterday with this printer...

The Epson Stylus Color 880 has 4 LEDs. If all 4 are flashing or blinking then the printer has a maintenance request error. It means that the waste ink counter has reach its limit. The remedy is to replace the waste ink pads and reset the waste ink counter. You can use the SSC service utility to reset the protection counter. You can download the utility from here http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/epsonSSC.html

You can also use the control paler to reset the counter. Timing is the key to success when you reset the counter using the control panel so keep that in mind. To reset the protection counter using the control panel (front panel):

Step 1.Turn the power on while holdint the following buttons doen. Paper feed, cleaning button. (thr paper out light will flash for 3 seconds)
Step 2.While the paper out light is still flashing press the cleaning button for 10 seconds. The following leds will flash in sequence Ink out lights black and color, Paper out light. Once the printer starts to initilize the counter should be reset. This will reset the protection counter.

What does it mean when the power light and the printer light are blinking on an Epson c60 model?

If all the Led's/Light's are blinking/flashing on an Epson Printer, that indicates "Maintenance Request Error". The maintenance request error is actually a "Waste Ink Pad Overflow Error". Normally your remedy is to replace the Waste Ink Pads with a new ones and then reset the INTERNAL WASTE INK PAD COUNTER...The need to replace the waste ink pads is measured by the amount of ink uses, which is determined based on the number of Head Drive Pulses, accumulated in the waste ink counter. When the total quantity of ink deposited onto the waste ink pads, during cleaning and flushing, reaches the set limit, the printer generates a maintenance request error and stops printing. If you just reset the counter and don't replace the pads, then your printers old pads will eventually overflow and normally start leaking ink out the bottom of your printer.I know this information is not much help, but at least you will know what your ERROR is.

Both the red and green light are on and blinking. What is wrong with my Epson C60?

kiryakitsa1 You should download the SSC Service Utility as pineworks says. Read the instructions and warnings. Go to Reset counter protection and press reset. You may recieve a warning about replacing your waste ink pads. I have always reset the protection counter without replacing the waste ink pads and I have never had a problem. If you see ink drainage then you should replace the waste ink pads and then reset the protection counter. I have never had a problem with ink heads and I have done this many times.

Hi my R1800 has 2 flashing red lights (top) and no power light. What can i do? MAria

Hi.
It could be your ink tray has overflowed.
There is software http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml which might help.

Install this program, set your printer model and the driver (Epson Stylus Photo R1800) when it starts up. Close the program, and it will minimize to the
tray on the taskbar - right click on the icon and goto "Protection Counter". Choose
"Reset Protection Counter". Choose "Yes" to the question about the waste ink pads,
then switch the printer off for 1 minute. This should cure the problem.

It might be worth a try

All lights flashing on the epson stylus photo 870. Printer not working.

Unfortunately, the Russian software does not work on a Mac, and it crashes at launch when installed in WZ98 under Virtual PC. However, I found this on another site, and it worked immediately:

The sequence to reset the waste ink counter is as follows:

WASTE INK ROM RESET ONLY 870, 1270

1. Turn the printer off using the power button on the panel of the printer.
2. Disconnect the interface cable at the back of the printer.
3. Hold down the "LOAD/EJECT" and "CLEANING" buttons simultaneously.
4. Turn the printer on. Release all buttons as soon as paper out light flashes.
5. Quickly press (within 3 seconds while PAPER OUT light is flashing) the "CLEANING" button for 10 seconds.
6. Release the button and the printer will initialize.
7. Once initialization is complete, turn the printer off.
8. Reconnect the interface cable.
9. Turn the printer on

Works great, no muss...no fuss!

Reset waste ink counter on Epson C60 printer

If both lights are flashing, it means the Waste Ink Pads in your printer are saturated with ink and the waste ink "protection" counter has exceeded its limit. The Waste Ink Pads should be replaced as soon as possible. You can restore your printer to a working condition immediately by using the SSC utility - download from

http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml

and use it to reset the Protection Counter. This will stop the lights flashing and restore normal operation.

However, remember that eventually ink will overflow from the waste ink area and make a dreadful mess, so you must change the waste ink pads before this happens. This requires the disassembly of the printer.

If you decide to have a go at replacing the ink pads yourself, report back and I will provide further help.
