Question about Sony Handycam DCR-HC42 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

LCD Screen not working

Hi, I purchased sony DCR-HC42E on August 2005. Yesterday the LCD Screen suddenly stopped working. I can record it through view finder, but LCD screen is just blank. Also the message 'cover is not open' appears, while the cover is already opened. Also please let me know if I will get a free service if I am under the warranty period for the above issue.
