The engine is running and they don't show any life?
They are both electrically operated - they will have a common ground circuit - check the wiring to the gauges.

Be aware your amp can deliver more power to a 2 Ohm speaker, but will not work if the 2 Ohm speaker somewhere in the audio spectrum comes beneath the 2 Ohm. Because you want the sub, to go as low as possible, it could be the speaker will have a very low impedance under 20 Hz, causing your amp to go in protection.
The power you give to the amp, will not be the cause it going in protection. It is sensing the output current, so it will stay in the borders the end stage can deliver. Try two speakers in series and give the same power. If the amp is not driven into the protection, I think you are closing in to what is causing the problem.
really depends a lot on you if you have clearance you can put it under a seat eaven a 500w amp wont get that hot down there. As far as your powering wire you can some times find a rubber plug in a hole on the fire wall or you can drill a 3/8-1/2 inch hole depending on your gadge wire and use a rubber gromet to protect the wire. the ground can be any steel part of the car generally I use a metal self tapping screw to the floor steel.
try replacing your relay first not that expensive and easy to change also some models have a red jumper wire on the relay plug that sends power directly to pump
