Hi I have recently been set up with the Surfboard modem which works fine when I ethernet it to my macbook. However I have just purchased the netgear router so that I can go wireless. Now I can connect the macbook to the netgear no problem but I can't get the netgear to recieve the signal from the surfboard.
Is there a password? Should the netgear just take the signal via ethernet and send it out wirlessly? help!
Make sure that you have the ethernet cord from your modem plugged into the WAN/Internet port on your router. Then unplug the power cord from your cable modem and plug it right back in. After the modem fully comes back online, unplug the power cord on the wireless router and plug it back in. wait 30 - 60 sec and then try and connect.
Most cable companies only allow one active"CPE" at a time for internet access. All this means is when you change what is connected to the cable modem you must always reboot the cable modem to allow access.

I have a Geo-Vision Multi-Cam security system that works fine on my local home network; 3 computers on a D-Link router. However, I can not access the cameras from the internet. I am sure I have the router set up correctly with port forwarding and virtual server. Is there something else that must be done, say to the cable modem or the router? What IP address must I use; server computer, router, or modem?

Trying to setup "Yawcam" to allow my webcam to be visible over the Internet. Motorola SB4220 is connected to a Netgear Router, then to the computer. "Yawcam" says to enable UPnP on th router, and I have done that. I also tried disabling the MS Firewall of Vista, but cannot pass traffic on ports 8888 or 8081 (Yawcam Ports). Tried enabling Port Forwarding on the Router as well, but no difference. Do I need to configure anything in the SB4220 to allow passthru to the router?

I have no problem listening to radio on my personal Apple Laptop, using email or the internet. But when I attempt to use my work intel-based laptop with a VPN connect, I get booted out every 30 minutes like clockwork. I've been told it is not the work VPN but the age of the cable modem, which I purchased used from the cable company when I got Charter internet service. I do not have this issue with Comcast cable and an Apple AirExpress modem at a different home I have. Do I need a newer version of a cable modem and how do I know what features to look for?
