No, you have a failing optic block. This is the polarizers failing inside. Very expensive to repair. Better off buying a new TV.

Convergence Bad

Changing the convergence IC's could cost $300-$400 total.CRT based TV rear projectors are more or less obsolete now, with everything going to DLP and LCD.These days 5 years is the expected life on these TV's (most extended warranty contracts only cover up to 5 years)

Hi ,,my problem is one day turning on the tv and it turns itself off ..when i got it back on the color was distorted and theres a color arch thru the picture ...we get a picture but its not aligned ..and...

This would be called a convergence defect. IT is not a real bad repair but it will have to be done by an authorized RCA repair shop. The alignment takes a jig called a chipper checker. Call around your area. WE charge about 250.00 to do this in columbus GA. THat should give you a starting point

Started with small blue dots to left of screen. mGrew to a dark blue blob in the center of the screen. How can I fix this.

The light engine (the projector part of tv) is failing. A common problem, but very expensive as you have to replace the entire engine, can't be repaired. Check with Sony to see if this model is still under their extended warranty or not. If so they'll fix it for free, if not be prepared to pay several hundred dollars at the least. At that point you'd probably be better off buying a new TV.

Really the only thing you can do is put an insurance claim in for a new tv , the cost of repair would be very expensive.

Screen repair

Hello Cwgrlsrok3,

If by separating you mean the colors are not lining up, this means that the convergence amplifiers are failing. If this is the case you will need to have the amplifiers replaced, this is not at all expensive. The Technician will most likely charge about $100-$250 for the house call and $250 for the actual job itself. This will total $350-$500 at the most. I would suggest getting this fix, unless you are looking for an excuse to upgrade your TV. If you decide to buy a new TV you can give your TV to a local vocational high school, for use in helping teach TV repair. In any event it is worth fixing.

Thank you,

Hitachi tv repair?

I get people all the time bringing rear-projection TV's in to my shop, that a friend of theirs gave to them. There is a reason why people give them a way (even better - sell them to their friends) cause these sets have many problems, are expensive to repair, and they want something better. Your money is better spent on something new. Just make sure you google the model number you intend to buy first with the words "repair" or "complaint" in the search, in order to not get one of the many new sets that are customer service nightmares.
