HP Pavillion zd7000 boots to HP screen, given option to change boot order or go into bios and then stops, and I have a black screen, no errors. When I go into the BIOS and make sure the boot order will go to the CDRom, I am able to save changes, but then the bootable XP CD does not load, nothing changes. I took it apart yesterday (a chore) to get to the CMOS battery, and I reset the battery. When I booted up, I got the notice that it was reset, but after that, same issue as before. When I try the numlock button, it does work, so I think the motherboard is working just fine. The disk light is on like it is trying to boot to the hard disk. Please let me know if you have any ideas.

I Have an old HP pavillion model N3410. I am trying to access BIOS or change boot order but it won't let me. I've tried pressing f2 during reboot but it goes straight to normal windows me startup.Also...

Turn the computer off.
Hold down any key on the keyboard, and turn the computer on.
You might get a "keyboard error, press <something> to enter BIOS SETUP".

Also, instead of F2, try F1 or F10 or F11 or F12 or DEL.

Bios wont boot

Your BIOS is more than likely locked by an admin password or the options are locked upon startup. The best way to go around that is once you see the HP screen popup after restart, keep hitting F12 and the boot menu will pop up gving you access to the boot menu and then to the BIOS. If you have a password setup on the BIOS you will need it for any BIOS changes you make to take effect.

New HDD inserted into Pavilion ZD7000 - will not boot from XP CD

Try your old HDD in it and see if that works. If it does work then nothing is damaged except your DVD drive/Controller. Try putting the new HDD in another computer, installing windows then putting it back in the HP. If all else fails then flash the bios with an updated image and see if that rectifies the problem.

Pavillion laptop is not booting.

Try to boot the notebook with F8 Key. (Safe Mode)

Also try to go into the BIOS setting and change there --> Power and Boot Priority.

For BIOS try: ESC, DEL or F2 keys.
