2000 Corolla overheats after replacing serpentine belt

Hi, the serpentine belt on our 2000 corolla broke, we drove the car to a safe spot where I replaced the belt the next day. Now when driving the temp gauge overheats when pushing the accelerator. When idle car doesn't overheat. Tried troubleshooting (verify belt on correctly, fans come on, coolant full.) Any other suggestions/help? My thanks in advance.

SOURCE: 1999 cadillac deville overheating

my husband did everything that everyone else did that had this overheating problem. It was so weird that my engine cooled at a light and heated up going down the road. I have a north star 4.6 engine and this is natorious for happening. my check engine light also came on and so I had a diagnostics done which told me my #1 injector wasn't firing , car ran like **** as well. After putting in a new water pump and plugs, ect. and realized injector was good a friend told him we could have a blown head gasket. So just to see if this was the problem I went to buy a bottle of glassbeads and the auto parts guy told us to purchase a bottle of BARS STOP LEAK BLOCK SEALER NOT RADIATOR BUT BLOCK SEALER $31.99 . He followed the directions and we waited 24 hrs. before driving it. What ever the problem was has stopped my car runs like brand new and I am loving it again. no over heating no injector problem, runs great.......I hope this helps. I know its probly a temperary fix but its a fix and now we know what the problem was. SASSY

SOURCE: Car Overheats after 12 to 15 minutes of running. Temperature decreaes when I accelerate.

your fan is the problem...it's not turning fast enough to cool the engine off. I need more info on what type of fan you have....elec fan or a clutch fan?

SOURCE: Overheats while Idling.

there are 3 cooling fan reays in a 98 aurora and they are computer controlled. the low speed fan relay should turn on when the ecu detects a temp of 229 degrees and should turn off when the temp has dropped to 216 degrees. it is best to check the temp with a computer monitor so you can see what the computer is reading. If you turn the a/c on you can see if the fans are operating. If they don't come on with the a/c you may have a problem with the high side a/c switch. A bad thermostat can cause the fans to come on late.

Sounds to me like your rad may need replacing or you thermostat is stuck partially shut. This is why it won't heat up on idle. Change your thermostat first it's cheap to do (less than 10 bucks) and that might be all you need to do.Good Luck

Replaciing serpentine belt on 2006 Toyota Corolla

You'll have to remove the engine cover under the bottom so you can position the new belt on the pulleys properly. Get a wrench or tensioner tool and turn the tensioner clockwise to relax the drive belt. Don't apply excessive force.

It's hard to draw a picture with words, but looking at the engine from the passenger side of the car, there are basically two top pulleys, two middle, and two bottom. The drive belt goes around the outside of the two top and two bottom, and on the inside of the two middle.

Serpentine belt

any repair shop will charge about .5 hours to replace. If your unsure about how to do it, don't. You will end up loosing more than your patience by trying it yourself
