Cannot share connection

Hello. I wanted to ask you for help. I have router D-Link DI-604 and until yesterday everything worked fine - router was sharing internet connection for both of my computers. Yesterday when i turned on my first one PC, internet was working. But when i turned on second PC, connection was "limited or no connectivity". I've checked everything, and it seems that cable is fine. So maybe anyone could help my with solving that problem. One thing by the way. When i turn on my second PC, and try to repair connection (Windows XP), repairing stops at "Acquiring network address". I've checked it at cmd and found, that router generates me some IP which starts 164 (router's IP starts with 192, and my static IP starts with 213) and i never had it before. So i traced it and it was from america (i am from Europe). Maybe that could be a hint? Thanks for helping a lot

The IP address that you have is an automatic IP address the Windows generates. It basically means your computer is not getting an IP address from the router (DHCP). You should try powering everything off. Then, in this order, power on your modem, wait 30 seconds, then, power on your router, wait 30 seconds, then power on your computers...This should fix the problem since one computer is working already.

Cant connect the d-link website after ip replacement.

Hello,

Have you tried to reset your router? If not, do so. It will reset everything to factory default.

To reset, look for a hole near the ports, where it says RESET. Use a pointed object such as a paper clip.

Hope it helps.

Internet Connection won't work

if your router have freeware, like for example you type it on IE, http://192.168.1.1 so this mean you are accessing your router, in this method you can see the default connection of your router itself identifying the IP, DNS and gateway address, this time you know what is your exact address going to you PCs...

Connectivity to email and internet increasingly fails.

next time it happens leave laptop on and plugged into router and unplug router only. If laptop now works problem is in the router you will probably have to reset router to default and use the router wizard to re-program!

Modem and d link

Hello there,

Your internet connection should be setup properly in order for the router to give connectivity to both your computer.

You must contact your ISP and ask them for the IP's and put it in the router.

Cant share internet using a router

Hi There, what model of dlink router do you have?
Also, Or just check the ports you have in your router, the internet should be connected to the WAN port and the switch and/or computers to the LAN port(s).
If the router is new by default you should be able to access internet by plug everything the way I told you.
Also, by default the router ip address should be 192.168.1.1, type that into your web browser address bar, then you will have access to the router admin web page were you can see the status page, there will tell you if you have or not access to Internet really. Maybe the problem is that the router have no access internet access at all.

I cannot find the WAN connection..Where should the blue cord connect...I just placed it in the WAN jack on the hub..

If you want a WAN you need a router, and not a HUB.

If you have a switch, and you want to work with fixed IP addresses, you can do this but it will get involved with using gateways and etc.

The easiest way is to get a router, and set everything up with DHCP.
