DERIVATIVES I'm looking for the "d/dx" button but I cannot find it on this calculator.. Other calculators have one.

This calculator doesn't have the ability to evaluate derivatives, as some more advanced (and expensive) calculators do.

On the CASIO Fx-9860GII, how does one do time derivatives ( i.e. (dx/dt or dy/dt)) for use with parametric functions? I am attempting to find the arc length of a parametric function.

To calculate the arc length of a curve you need the derivatives as functions of a variable not the derivatives at one point. If I were you I would read the manual for more complete information. Maybe if you wrote a program that does that.

Derivatives

Tell me where the key (or Submenu TAB) is and I will tell you how to use it. Apparently you were living in TI Planet and now have moved to Casio Planet and you need to adjust to the jet lag brought about by the transition.

In Run>Mat press [SHIFT][ MODE] to enter the (Setup).. On the 5th line: Derivative set the selection to ON.
Press Menu then Graph. Enter a function, validate and press F6:Draw.
Once graph is draw press the F1:trace key. A CROSS appears on the graph indicating the default starting position. At the bottom of the screen you see X=, Y=, and dY/dX=
The last one is obviously the value of the derivative at the position of the cross. Move the cursor to another point to see the values X, Y, and dY/dX.
You can also enter a value of X to find Y and dY/dX. Make sure the X-value you enter is in the interval between Xmin and Xmax, the window limits.

Derivatives

The derivative of sin(cos(x)) dx is cos(cos(x))-sin(x). Unfortunately the fx-9850GII doesn't do symbolic differentiation so you'll have to get this result some other way. I cheated and used a calculator from another manufacturer, one that does do symbolic differentiation.

Are there any derivatives' button in on TI-30XS calculators??

You cannot find it because this calculator model does not have a button to evaluate derivatives of functions.

How do you find the derivative without values for x

I am not sure I understand what you want, but if I am guessing right, you need to calculate formulas for derivatives, where the name of some variable appears eg= d(x^2)/dx = 2 x.
Sorry, the calculator does not have a CAS, you cannot perform symbolic calculations regardless of the subject (derivatives, integrals, sums of series, factoring polynomials, expanding polynomial products, polynomial division, etc.)

"ON" button doesn't work; calculator won't

Hi,

In most cases this cannot be economically repaired... the cost to repair would be more then the calculator is worth...

Find derivatives

The TI-84 does not have a Computer Algebra System and therefore cannot perform this operation.

It can however find the value of a derivative at a single point on a function. Put the function into your Y= menu and graph it. Press 2nd and Trace to go to the calc menu and choose the "dy/dx" option. Type the x-value at which you want to evaluate the derivative and press enter.

Can the casio fx9750gplus calculator show differentiation/integration etc. for example differentiate 5x^3 and have it show 15x^2?

Sorry to disappoint you but the Casio FX-9750Gplus does not handle symbolic calculations. It does not have a Computer Algebra System or CAS. It can however calculate the numerical integration of a function between two limits, as well as the first and second derivatives of a function at a given point.

  1. To access the numerical integration and differentiation,
  2. Press the Menu button.
  3. Highlight the RUN icon and press [ENTER/EXE]
  4. Press [OPTN][F4:CALC]. Then
  • Press [F2:d/dx] for first derivative
  • Press [F3:d^2/dx^2 for second derivative,
  • or [F4:integral]

Can the TI 84 calculate second derivatives?

Hello,
I am sorry to disappoint you, the nDeriv ( function can only calculate numerical derivatives of an expression at a point. The dy/dx can do the same thing (calculate the first derivative) at one point on a displayed graph. It can be activated for graphs by pressing TRACE, then [2nd][CALC][6:dy/dx]. If you need the derivative at more than one point you have to press [2nd][CAL] [6:dy/dx] again.

What I said above concerns the native abilities of the calculator. There may be applications you can install to allow computation of 2nd derivatives. look for them on the TI site, or the archive section of ticalc.org. Try deriv

Hope it helps.

Can i calculate calculus using fx-991ms

If you want to get an answer like 1/2X for d/dx(X^2), you will have to purchase a CAS calculator like Casio's Algebra FX-2 or Classpad. TI series calculators also have CAS.
However, you can calculate the numerical values of derivatives and integrals only.
To calculate the value of a proper integral:

  1. Press the 'ON' key;
  2. Press the Integral key b8325f5.jpg;
  3. Enter your expression (example X^2+X-3 etc);
  4. Press the 'comma' key after your expression;
  5. Input the first limit after comma, input comma again after first limit;
  6. Close brackets;
  7. Press the equals key, display may return after a while with the answer.
for eg to calculate xdx from 0 to 2, input as follows:

dx(X,0,2)

To calculate derivative at a point:

  1. Press Shift and then the integration key.
  2. Enter your function;
  3. Input comma;
  4. input the point at which you want to evaluate the derivative;
  5. Close bracket and press enter.
Example, to calculate d/dx X^2 at 3 input:

SHIFT+dx key X^2,3)

Display looks like this: d/dx(X^2,3).
