Question about Whirlpool GHW9400 Front Load Washer

Washer smell we've had this washer for a couple of years and it's great, but it has started to get a smell. we have tried some products to completely rinse out the system and we are also ensuring we are not using too much detergent (using HE detergent only). some have said that too much detergent invites fungal growth. has anyone found a magic bullet to completely flush out and sterilize the system?

I have the same problem with my maytag froint end load washer...the smell is getting worse, I leave the door cracked slightly and wipe the inside out after washes. Ive heard lots of people are having the smae problem. check consumer reports website and let the place where you bought it know about your problem.

The easy way it completely wash out a washer is by taking your soap dispenser out washing it and pouring bleach into the machine through the dispenser put on a full programme after it has finished you will have to put the washer on a full programme again with nothing in it and no more bleach this will flush the system out of the bleach so it should not stain your clothing but 1 other item you will need to check and that is your door seal if you close your door after each wash then what happens is it stays wet which gets moist on it a this starts to get mouldy and then starts to smell you will need to change your door seal, never close your washers door totally this will prevent this from happening again

I have a samsung WFA338AW front loading washing machine which has worked great for the last year but since i left some towels in there that got mildewy i now can't get the mildew smell out of the chamber....

Now I don't know if this will work for you but you can give it a try. I have had good luck with those Cascade packets that you can use in your dishwasher. Try throwing one packet in the washer on the clean washer cycle. Also another step is to leave the door open completely on the washer for at least a week and not to use it so all the water will completely dry out. The bacteria will no longer have a place to grow if you let all the water dry up in the machine. Good luck and have a nice holiday.

Don’t wait for the machine to jam to look into your filter.

You can use Affresh to clean your front loader. Deposits of soap and other such things can be stuck around the inside tub of your washer. Try this product, it works great on all front loaders. Use very hot water with the Affresh pellet with no clothes and run the machine through a cycle. Also helps with any stagnant water smells. Put the Affresh pellet inside the machine, not in the soap dispenser.

You can give me a ‘very helpful’ rating for the free help, can't you. Thanks.

Frigidaire front load washer SMELLS!!!!

your inner tub needs to be removed and the outer tub including the outside of the inner tub needs to be cleaned of all the sludgy soap, fabric softener, etc. that has built up in between the tubs, along with the drain tube at the bottom, you might try bleach as a stop gap,but sooner or later you are going to have to clean this out the hard way,its not fun

I have a Kenmore series 90 washing machine, Model 110.26902691. I changed the motor coupling last week and after being proud of my work, I was able to complete one cycle before I started to smell a burning...

Hi,

Considering the info you`ve provided, specific to the history of replacing the drive coupling. You stated that right after replacing the coupling it started to smoke or as you said "I started to smell a burning smell". Can you identify if it was electrical, or was it rubber/plastic ?

I`ve seen these coupling`s when not put on correctly start to rub against the motor or the transmission, you might want to double check your work with installing the coupling.

Aside from that it could possibly be the motor, but if it agitates and manages to advance through the wash & rinse cycle up to the spin, I`d be skeptical of a motor problem. You should check to make sure the lid switch is being fully closed, in the event it isn`t closed properly the unit will do everything except spin.

Hope that help`s. Good luck.

I have exactly the same problem!

Try using the tub clean cycle and use a good dose of bleach or vinegear. Here is how to run the tub clean cycle.

To start the TUB CLEAN cycle:
1. Remove any clothing or items from the washer and close the door.
2. Open the dispenser drawer and add liquid chlorine bleach to the bleach compartment.
NOTE: Do not add any detergent to the detergent compartments. Excessive suds may be produced and leak
from the washer.
3. Close the dispenser drawer slowly.
4. Power On and then press the Extra Rinse button for 3 seconds. (Prewash option will be selected.)
5. Press the Start/Pause button to start.
6. After the cycle is complete, leave the door open to dry around the washer door opening, door seal and
door glass.

Smellly Bosch Max 1000 front loader washing machine

(Posted this already, but found an AU site that sells Norwex detergent - a great product!)

We've had our Fridgidaire front load washer for 6 years now, and untilabout 2 months ago, it smelled absolutely horrible. I tried the thingsI was told to do....hot water/bleach cycle, wiping the slime from therubber seal, and leaving the door open....it didn't work.

Iwas told about Norwex laundry detergent - Norwex is a company whichproduces green cleaning products - the detergent is a quicklybiodegradable, highly concentrated powder, and all I need is 1/4 - 1/2a teaspoon per load. After about one week of using the Norwex detergentI noticed that the smell was completely gone and hasn't returned! Also, the gross slime that used to collect in the rubber seal is no longer aproblem. I've been so wonderfully amazed!

I don't know why thisdetergent fixes the smell problem, but I've talked with others who havehad the same great results with it - their smell issue was solved.Perhaps it's because it contains no animal fat products?

Anotherbenefit of the Norwex detergent is how economical it is - it comes in a2kg bag for about $25, and in a front load machine you will get approx.800 loads from it using the above mentioned quantity/load! It's reallyan amazing product! You can buy it online - www.norwexnaturallyclean.com.au (an Australian site) is a great site to buy from. Good luck with the smell!

Kenmore front load HE washer odor

How old is your machine? Mine is 5 years old, and I just started to get a "sewage" smell in my laundry room this weekend. I disconnected the water return to the sewer line and discovered lots of gunk in the hose, and the connector to the machine was completely dark green. I'm going to replace the hose, and trying to figure out if there is some sort of filter.

We only use He detergents too, so I guess this is something that just happens over time.
