Question about Hannstar AH-191D Monitor

2 Answers

No access to DOS screen setup

In the onscreen display, access to the DOS screen is greyed out - i.o.w. not accessible. Is there anyway to change that? Also, when I access the computer BIOS, the window is too large for the screen, so BIOS settings are not completely available. Plus, the same thing - window too large for screen, in Safe mode, as well as on bootup. Returns to normal (1024x768) in Welcome screen and subsequent Desktop window. Lastly :) What is the URL for official HannStar support? Thanks for any advice.

    Hi ZT3000,

Thanks for taking the time to respond.
I tried the reset, but that is acually a reset to factory
It shows a resolution of 640x480 which is usual for a BIOS screen,
    but the display remains oversize.

I will try the contact address, but it looks like it's one for
business purposes rather than end user support.
    Anyway,we'll see.

    Thanks again,

    Thanks ZT3000 for following this.
At the moment I can't get my hands on another LCD,
but I tried it on a CRT and it's OK.

I think I will go back to the store it came from
and see if it shows the same on different computers,
but that could take me a while :)

BTW,I also tried shrinking the image, but strangely enough,
there is no size adjustment, only postion adjustment.
Have to explore that too while I'm in the store.

    Thanks again,

You must be reading my mind.
That's beginning to be my sentiment too,
although in fairness to I-Inc - Hannstar,
it may just be this particular model or monitor.

I do have a support email outstanding,
so let's see what they come up with.
They were hard to find. The official Hannstar website
has no reference mentioned, but I found the support link

    Thanks for the input.

Bios problems replace chip next to coms battery number f16-100hip u30 this chip controls most of the startup from bios to charging its to long to go into its integrated. . ive just repaired one of theses boards when it would not load up windows or rom, i managed to get one of another board with power problems these problems are not powering on wifi lite up and hard drive light on. there is 3 chips pq49 pq36 pq37 they control power best to change all 3. as for bios you will need to get latest bios up date it should be f16 from HP/ or other company as board in a few brands. change chip and you will need the new bios on usb drive. follow setting up usb bios drive, install on usb, put usb in main usb port left side and hold down power for 5 seconds ( will power on and off ) while holding down windows key and letter B on keyboard. now press the power button for 1 second and release but still hold down windows key and and letter B. you will hear beeps and it will shut down. when shut down quickly release keys and remove usb drive before it turns on, if all goes well you will have new bios on now, if not repeat. every thing on bios should be fine. then.

Not exactly familiar with this particular monitor, but.. Once inside the computer BIOS (cmos screens), press either the external reset (autosync) button or from within the onscreen display. This should resize the screen (it does on any other model I've ever sold). Same solution for SAFE mode. Hannstar does not provide user support either by online or telephone. They rely on the distribution channel to provide support (namely, your reseller). The closest thing to direct HannStar support is here: ZT3000 "Beta tester of "0"s and "1's"

The last suggestion is borrow another LCD from someone, for just a moment, and check the size when in the BIOS screen.

If the screen is still bad, then your video card is not working right.

If the screen is okay, then your monitor is bad and if it's still bad after a factory reset, then all you can do is attempt a warranty replacement.

Looks like the monitor is bad, as you noticed. If the CRT works on your computer, that rules out the video card.

As for not having screen size adjustment controls, that would be a first. They gotta be there somewhere??, anywhere??

You know it and I know it, your better off with a different brand of monitor.

Some monitors change colour if there is damage, internally, within the signal cable. Try another cable if you have one.
Alternatively, it might be that the monitor is near an extremely strong magnetic source, such as big loudspeakers?

LG20" monitor. Suddenly a red

Try to reset it
Scroll through the menu options by using the up and down arrow buttons located just under the "Menu" button. Scroll down to the "Setup" icon, which looks like a big cog. Press the "Auto/Set" button to access the Setup menu. Scroll, using the down arrow, to "Factory Reset." This setting is located at the bottom of the Setup menu. Press the "Menu" button on the right side of the monitor. This will bring up the On Screen Display. If nothing happens when the "Menu" button is pressed, press and hold it for several seconds to unlock the On Screen Display. Press the "Auto/Set" button to choose "Factory Reset" and then press the down arrow to reset the monitor.

Your monitor has a problem on its inverter board. It is an electronic component failure, and often it cost's more to fix it than to buy a new LCD monitor .

NEC multiSync 1700V as external monitor for Notebook Toshiba U205, Operating System Window Vista Home Premium. It displays only part (80%) of the picture compared with notebook's monitor.

Hi, if the 17 inch lcd screen is not a widescreen then the problem with the screen is possibly nothing more than the aspect ratio or resolution, which ever way you wanna look at it. All laptops have a widescreen type of ratio, so you will have to be either willing to change the resolution when you switch screens or setup different profiles, which you should beable to do through control panel, appearance and then personalization, you will then have access to it.

Normally there are some buttons on the monitor that allow you to center the window, make it wider, etc. Also, find the button that says Degrauss..this will demagnetize your monitor and sometime that will do it...

Auto image adjust

This problem has existed for 4 or 5 years, and I've seen various solutions posted with inconsistent results. Did the problem begin
after a power failure or surge, by any chance? In my experience, this can be related to a setting in the BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) of your motherboard, which can sometimes be affected by power glitches. Try this:

Access the Setup menu of your BIOS. This can only be done during the first few seconds after starting or re-starting your PC. Usually there will be an instruction on the logo screen telling you what key(s) to press to get into Setup (usually F2, F12, or a key-combination, depending on the manufacturer). This screen goes by pretty quickly, so you have to be fast. Once you're in the BIOS setup menu, use the arrow keys to navigate to a category called "Video" or "Display" or "Graphics", etc. (again, depending on the brand). Press "Enter" to view the screen adjustsments for that category. If the graphics controller is set to "Auto", change it to "Onboard/PEG" or some similar term. (If you don't have an alternate graphics controller, you're out of luck.) Follow on-screen instructions for changing and saving settings. When you exit the BIOS, be sure to select "Exit and Save", not simply "Exit." See if that works.

Screen ajustment

Hi stefan,

You can adjust manually using the OSD (on-screen display) menu of you monitor by pressing menu button. Other monitor OSDs cannot be accessed on single button but some combination of buttons but considering it can be accessed, please look for it. Try also changing the properties at Operating System GUID (graphics user interface display) Control Panel Display or your monitors display monitor application software. Try changing the frequencies and other special features like single screen or wide screen, etc..

Best regards,

My AOC 17" CRT monitor displays large veiw on DOS & some PC DOS games where the top portion is displayed at the bottom of the screen.

sounds like you need to run a screen config wizard. If you have a true Nvidia driver you can do this. Otherwise, re-download the driver from the main website
and it'll work for you
