How to deactivate internal keyboard - Dell Inspiron 9400

I spilled some water in the left bottom corner of my internal laptop keyboard. I dried everything as best I could. Keyboard worked OK for a coupla days but then mouse stopped working and Crtl key started activating by itself. I installed wireless USB keyboard and mouse. Disabled laptop mouse, but can’t disable laptop keyboard. I will be typing on my external keyboard and all of a sudden the Ctrl activates itself on the laptop and wreaks havoc with my typing. Is there a way to disable the internal keyboard without opening the case?

If you go to the control panel, to hardware, in the keyboard section you should be able to uninstall the internal keyboards driver which will stop it working.

My inspiron mini 1018 notebook's keyboard is not working properly. The left shift key appears to be stuck and I really having a hard time using the whole keyboard. I remember having spilled a few drops...

When water spills into a notebook, you should fully disassemble the notebook & thoroughly inspect its inside. Look for any traces of liquid on the circuit boards & on other components. On circuit boards, liquid damage appears in the form of whitish traces. These needs to be wiped off. This can be done using a tooth brush moistened with few drops of hand sanitizer liquid.
Check all internal connectors & make sure that no liquid seeped into them. Dry them if needed.
When you are done, re-assemble back the notebook.
If the liquid fell on the keyboard & you found out that the keyboard is no longer working, then you might have to replace the keyboard.

If that happens with a new keyboard then the mother board is faulty and a replacement laptop is on the horizon. What happens with an external (USB) keyboard?

Water was spilled on the keyboard. Dryed out laptop but keyboard shorted out. Everything works fine but some keyboard characters don't type out. Can keyboard be replaced on this laptop?

You definitely need to replace the keyboard on the system. If your system still within warranty and you have Complete Care warranty from Dell this will be covered, if not you may need to pay for it or purchase a keyboard part.

Jumping Cursor

Wow! Electronics and Water do not mix. Your Dell Inspiron 1545 keyboard can be removed follow these instructions from Dell:
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins1545/en/SM/keyboard.htm#wp1179891

Then the next step is to get the water dryed out from under side.
As crazy as this may seem I have tried it on many other things like phones, and remotes left out in the rain.
Get a cheesecloth fill it up with rice! Yes RICE! It is one of the best absorbents.

Place it on the under where the keyboard sits overnight and give it a try in the morning.

Possible water or hard drive damage to Dell Inspiron 1000 Laptop

its fryed the GPU, sorry it won't work anymore, unless a miracle happens. If it was off and you left it off until it completely dried out (6-7 days) it would of still worked.

Laptop keyboard not operational

If you replaced the keyboard with a Dell replacement 1501 keyboard and it still doesn’t work then yes the motherboard will probably have to be replaced. If your son spilled water on the laptop it could clear up after it completely dries. If it was juice, soft drink or sport drink the laptop could develop other issues. The syrup in these kinds of drinks don’t evaporate, they just remain there and accumulate foreign particles like dust, hair, dirt and eventually start to corrode electrical contacts like acid. Similar to the terminal posts on a car battery.

Water on keyboard

Unfortunately you may need to get a replacement or just purchase an external USB keyboard and connect it. This would be the cheaper and easier solution for you; unless it is under warranty.
