Question about Whirlpool ET0WSRXML Top Freezer Refrigerator

Refridgerator not cold but freezer is freezing fine.

Firstly, I don't think this is my exact model but it wasn't on the list anywhere (I'm in Australia which might have something to do with it). My problem is that my fridge is cooling intermittently. I have removed the panel at the back of the freezer and there doesn't seem to be any ice on or near the fan at all. The fan appears to be working fine when I hold down the two door buttons I can feel cold air coming through the vents in the fridge But as soon as the freezer door closes the cold air stops moving into the fridge. Somedays the fridge is fine but others...not so good. Please help. I am sick of throwing out all our dairy products.

I do not have the exact same model Whirlpool, but a similar problem with a new Whirlpool Top Freezer Refrigerator model ER8YHMXS100.

    I
looked at the plastic housing inside the back of the freezer and it did
have a small amount of ice build-up. But when I removed the housing,
there is a small fan back there that was barely moving at all. I took
this off, cleaned the fan shaft of ice, and when I put it back on and
turned the thermostat on cold, the fan began spinning noticeably faster
and moving the cold freezer air again.
I am guessing that this was
the problem - the cheap plastic housing covering the fan, plus too much
frozen food, caused it to bind against the fan. Produced a lack of cold
air circulation, resulting in a warm refrigerator, but a cold enough freezer, causing ice to form.
I will let you know if I find that this is not the source of my problem.

Make sure that the airflow vents between the freezer and the refrigerator compartments are clear of all obstructions. Check for plastic freezer bags etc that could severely block air flow and cause the symtoms described

Side by side refridgerator part too warm

Make sure the small door between the freezer and fridge is open. It should be at the top towards the rear on the wall between the fridge and freezer. Thermostat controls its open/closing. And make sure freezer is in fact freezing and you don't just have residual cold in it. Freezer should be about 0 dertees.

Fridge isn't cold

Hi,

if the compressor is running your ref. should be getting cold. Their is a defrost timer but when it is in defrost the compressor shuts off. I think you do have a leak.

thanks,

Top refridgerator does not get cold but the bottom freezer works fine

Most of these have a fan that blows the cold air for the freezer into the refrigiator section. If the fan quits running you will experience your problem.

Refridgerator/Freezer will not get cold

Sounds like a defrost problem. Check to see if there is any frost buildup in the back wall of the freezer. If so, it is not defrosting as it should.
  • possible causes:
  1. bad defrost timer
  2. bad defrost heater (in freezer)
  3. bad thermo switch in freezer

If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above items.
  • if you already checked this and think it is a different problem then let me know, i will help you figure it out.

Whirlpool Freezer doesn't freeze?

insulated or not, garages are generally too cold for new energy efficient frigs to operate. ambient temp needs to be above 60 to work efficiently.
