Question about Sharp Viewcam VL-NZ50U Mini DV Digital Camcorder

White screen in sun light

On a recent trip, my camcorder suddnely startign showing a completely white-out screen when outdoors, but was filming well indoors. Also, in the evenings or early mornings, when sun light was low it worked well, but not in broad day light. Then suddenly it started clicking noise (like a magnetic relay) and screen started to flutter between white and an image in broad day light, but worked ok inside the house. Then the camcorder became ok even outside, but the whole cycle repeated itself again. I am not sure what is going and where can I get some help with this in India? thanks, naresh

Your lens ( iris may be sticking ) and its cables need cleaning : an authorized service center will replace the lens - possibly under warranty , if you call sharp customer service with sales date information , first ;

All outdoor exposures are white.

Sounds like you ISO setting (the 'film' speed) is set WAY too high. The brightness outdoors is causing the camera to not be able to expose correctly within the parameters of lens aperture and shutter speed. Try setting the ISO at 200.

AWB on DVX100B looks bluish

OK Hi, See if i can clear this up.

When you shot your white balance (WB) did you shoot it under sane lighting conditions that you where filming, And if you did how many diffretn light sources where present when you filmed. Blue cast useually means (WB) set to hot (beaning light source is hotter in kalvins) for what your shooting. Example shooting indoor gym that uses arclights are very bright then shooting around normal incandesent lights very dim.
Alot of the time there are multible light soures in the envioment your shooting in sun coming in through window lamps on table floursent lights overhead ect..

Know if you want to change (WB) after you shot your footage there are programs avalible to do this. But there usely exspensive.

Hope this helpes you. Good Luck! Need more help or info please comment back. Please rate.

Whiteout in viewfinder, LCD and playback when filming outdoors

You should check and see if your night shot is on. That would definitely make the screen go completely whit outside but work fine inside. Hope that helps.

Has blue in areas of low light

Add light or increase gain incrementally( gain=grain ). The unit is not known for low light finesse. Few in that chip range are.

White Balance

What is White Balance? The human eye captures white as white, red as red and blue as blue, regardless of whether you are outside under the sun or inside under incandescent lighting. Although this is something that we take for granted, the human eye actually adapts to correct the changes in color under different light sources. In reality, when light sources vary, colors caught as the reflection of those light sources also vary. For instance, films for cameras that use film are designed to capture the most appropriate coloring outside under the sun. Thus when you take pictures under incandescent or fluorescent lighting without using a flash, the colors in the resulting picture may seem strange. Digital camera and digital camcorders are equipped with a handy feature called "White Balance" that corrects the changes in color under different light sources, just like the human eye. One of the white balance settings, "Auto White Balance" (AWB) automatically adjusts to correct the changes in color under different light sources. White Balance and Coloring The White Balance feature on Canon digital cameras and camcorders is set to "Auto White Balance" at the time of purchase. If you prefer different coloring, if you want to adjust the coloring more in detail, or if you want to change the coloring on purpose, we recommend that you change the white balance setting.
