Question about IBM T42p 1.8GHz Pentium M (0004352328) PC Notebook

Working with 2 Screens

Hello, I own an IBM T42 which is connected to a Proview LCD. I would like to set it so that I can use both the LCD and the Laptop's screen simultaneously. Just to clearify - I'm not looking to see the same picture twice but rather to be able to move windows from one screen to the other. Any suggestions? D.

What you have to do is enable "Extended Display" ie: Check the Box in Display Settings "Extend the Desktop onto this monitor" this basically give you one large independent desktop, allowing more work space. The other way is to "Clone" that is same image on BOTH monitors. There is a good program to help called UltraMon it is great. www.realtimesoft.com/ultramon/download.asp Also ensure you have the most up to date Drivers for your Radeon..

Where is the wireless switch located on the IBM thinkpad T42

Unlike the newer laptops, the T42 doesn't have it's own wireless switch. So in order to get the wireless working, you need to also make sure that the Power Management driver and the Hotkey driver are installed as well.

Load the drivers in this order:

1) Power Management driver - http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-4GXPEG
2) Hotkey driver - http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-68000
3) Wireless Driver - http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-70504
After downloading it, you must go into C>Drivers>Win>Wlanint and run the setup file from there.
4) Access Connections (Optional) - http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-4ZLNJB

There will either be a switch on the side of the machine or it will be fn and one of the funtion keys, look for an image like this:

Where is the wireless button on t42 thinkpad

There's no hardware switch to activate and deactivate the wireless networking, but pressing Fn and F5 brings up a menu that allows you to turn Bluetooth on/off, WiFi on/off or both. It seems like IBM isn't satisfied with standard toggle buttons like other notebook manufacturers - even pressing the Fn and F7 buttons to switch between internal and external screens, brings up a menu with multiple display settings and resolutions.
Hope this helps,
David

I keep losing my connection - IBM Thinkpad t42

Are you using IBM SW or Windows to manage the wireless? Occassionally, the IBM SW has issues with certain model routers and encyrption types.

You can also try unchecking the "Allow Computer to turn this device off to save power" in the adapter properties and

Adjusting the power on the wireless device to the max. By default IBM sets it in the middle to conserve power.

Thinkpad T42 Hard Disk problem

Hello.

It seems the hard disk size will max out at 80GB with a 5,400 RPM speed according to IBM.

Im sorry to say that this means that it will not support a 120Gb hard drive.

IBM T42 laptop...NO Video, laptop powers up however fan spins however...ideas???

Connect the laptop to an external monitor, you may have to hold down the Function key and press the F8 or F7 CRT/LCD key to switch between monitor and display, to see if the video card is defective.
I hope this helps solve your problem.
Good Luck.

Sometimes there are keys are your laptop that adjust your settings.
If you know which keys you can hit the fn key simultaneously.
If your not sure go on line and you should be able to find a site that will tell you how to adjust your screen.
In search type your laptop model then type display settings

Dell FP1905FP Stopped working

First try on another computer just to see if there is any other problem then the LCD. Also check power supply to the monitor. I believe this has one that's internal, but if external, swap with a similar specs one. If internal, check to see if any popped up capacitors. Video boards are most likely ok.
