Monitor problem

-   I have a compaq presario 3000. I am on it right now, and I can see the screen but there is no real light. I have my lamp with the shade off so I can see the display. I also noticed that in the past 10 mins I see a flash of light, almost like if you were to be in a storm and the power goes in and out. It seems like it could be something like a short or bad connection. If it was a bulb of some sort wouldn't it just go out with no flickering of light at all? I tried a few different things like system restore which I knew that wouldn't help but I tried, I unistalled something that I downloaded from the web, it is possible the problem happened right after that, In my device manager there is yellow question marks on other devices. When I open that it is 5 different things that have yellow marks, each of which say need the driver, the last one is vga compatible.
