The term for it is commonly called a "bricked PSP" and usaly occurs when people modify there psp. but since yours occured legitamatly give sony a call http://www.us.playstation.com/support/psp/howtoobtainservice/default.html

I am sorry, but it sounds like your psp is psp is destroyed. What must of happened is the psp must have been turned off or reset while the new firmware was being installed. The firmware is the very basic program that makes the psp run. If its still under warrenty you could try to send it and get it repaired, but beyond that there is little to be done.
