Re: Charging Problem

Unfortunatly lap top batery's and all recharge battery's have what is called a charge memery they do not stand the test of time the more they are recharged the weaker they get. fore instance" When cam corders first came out. they were 12volts. if you charged them and took a volt meter to them (after a charge) they would measure 13.6 volts. after as long as 6months. There battery only charges to 9.5 volts after a overnight charge. SUGESTION TAKE OUT BATTERY' TURN ON UNIT IF IT WORKS FINE FOR A LONG TIME ON AC. THEN I BELIEVE IT IS A BAD BATTERY. hard to believe it is a charge problem with unit. REMEMBER the problem with sony battery"s last year that caused fire to lap tops DOCTORDAVE good luck Henniea

Re: Charging Problem

Hi, Does the unit run off of the battery? Also, try running the unit without the battery. This tells us several things. Nice unit; I'm working on a similar one now. good luck Harvester3

It goes dark, shuts off constantly. Battery meter isn't showing charging.

Unplug the battery and plug in the AC power plug into the laptop;

Does the laptop start up and stay on?

If yes,

Then put the battery in WHILE IT IS ON; See if it starts charging.

If it does not; You have a bad battery and need to replace it.

If it does start charging here's what happend;

Some laptop batteries if they are fully depleted on charge will not let you power up the laptop EVEN IF the power cable is plugged in. In some cases the PC won't turn on at all.

The reason for this is because the battery must have a certain % of charge in order for you to start the PC even IF the power cable is plugged in.

By removing the battery we eliminated the battery as being a cause for this issue; Once the PC is up and running in windows.. LET THE BATTERY CHARGE! You'll want at least 10% charge minimum for the PC to start up.

If however the battery replaced still doesn't hold a charge it's going to be the AC Adapter power cable that's causing the issue.

Best advice start off with the power cable replacement first; This is the cheapest to fix; Otherwise the battery can cost in excess of $50-$150 or more. But universal AC power adapters can be cheap $70 or less which varies depending on laptop.

My computer says it is charging but as soon as i hit the power button it stops charging and does nothing even happens

Have you tried running the computer with just the AC plugged in and not with the battery? If not try that. It could be the battery is going out. I had a similar issue once. If that doesn't work it might be the power supply / powercord or it could be the motherboard.

Yellow led blink 8 times compaq m700

I'm not understanding what the problem is. If the battery is dead, and you remove it, how do you expect it to recharge? Why would you remove it? So, you take it out and nothing happens.So? What were you expecting to happen?

Before you do anything more, read the documentation that came with your laptop to learn how to care for your battery. The amber light usually blinks with the battery is running low. When you plug in the A/C adapter, the light usually becomes steady to indicate the battery is charging. At tleast until you remove it.

Hope this helps. Please rate this repsonse

We have a compaq presario cq 60 bought in Canada and it's about 3 years old. Until yesterday, the computer battery would hold a charge for about 45 minutes (yes, we know we will have to replace the...

You need to replace your old battery. Don't over charged your battery. If you are using your laptop in your house it is better not to use it with battery. Just use the power adaptor/supply only. Then make sure you will drain the battery let say once a week. =)

My aspire will not turn on I mash power button and it lights for a few seconds and goes off what could be the problem?

this seem like the battery is not charge.(dead). The power supply is probably not working therefore it is not charging the battery. Check it the power supply has a light.. see if it on. you may need a voltage tester to test the power supply of it dc voltage of 19V Dc,

Changed motherboard, needs battery to power up, but when battery goes dead no power. does this laptop need battery to power up?

no, means your charging circuit / charge controller is not working. Double check that the board (also known as DC converter or DC Controller) is seated firmly, all connectors are in place, etc. You may also check the power supply as well, or try substituting another supply for a short time.

My computer will not load up. I turn on the power and am faced with a blank black screen. Computer is fully charged.

Try pulling the battery and mains power out for a little while. Then plus just the mains power in (no battery) and see if it will come on. If there are no signs of life (no solid lights indicating it's working) test the power supply with a voltmeter as your power supply might be dead and as a result the battery is not charging.
It is common for DC power jacks on laptops to break. Check where the power cable goes into the compter to make sure it's not loose or broken. If so, the jack will need to be either re-soldered to the board or replaced.
