No hydraulic clutch engagement in 1996 Jeep Cherokee Sport 5 speed

The hydraulic clutch in my 1996 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0L 5spd. is now a series of 6 (w/ what should be reverse) neutrals. What could be the specific causes? Fluids remain at proper levels and appear clean. No leaks are visible from the engine compartment master cylinder to the slave cylinder.

Pump clutch watch fuild in master, it should go down and up with each pump and release. the master can be by passing. if the system has been drained you may have a air bubble in master. to remove air use a nose suckion ball, put in the bottom of master. be sure to suck it in the up and down spots

SOURCE: 02 Cruiser. Replaced clutch master cylinder cause

is the clutch power assisted(vacuum)?if so couldvery well have some bearing on what is happening.I WILL TELL YOU A STOREY.A couple of months ago I changed the clutch master cyl. on my land cruiser and because I do all my own work still I didnot obey the golden rule..3days later i changed the slave cyl...l again did not obay the golden rule...... 2 days later iagain pulled the master cyl off cleaned it all out, but this time I OBEYED THE GOLDEN RULE,WHICH IS::always change the brake fluid when ever you change amaster cylinder either brake or clutch or when I was doing work for other people,if the brakes were worked on or the clutch you drained the sytem and relaced the fluid...ANY COMMERCIAL WORKSHOP THAT DOES NOT DO THIS IS GOING TO HAVE COMEBACKS ..it may only be 5or10% but for a $5container of fluid it isn` t worth the chance I was in that5 or 10 % are you? that is true, not more than 3 months ago give it some thought ....................

Its either the clutch fluid is wrong or not at the correct levels or it has not been bled correctly.

Make sure the slave cylinder body is attached firmly, then bleed the air out of the hydraulics--similar to bleeding brake lines. Watch the clutch mechanics while someone operates the clutch, (engine off) you should see definite movement. If you get movement and no clutch action, you may have to reappraise your clutch installation. Hope this helps!

How do I bleed the hydrolic clutch on a 1996 Jeep Cherokee Sport

just like all like clutches.

it has a bleed valve on the slave, at the bell housing
you bleed it just like brakes.
google that
or youtube that.
10000s or examples. there.
or read the FSM book>
http://www.jeep4x4center.com/knowledge-base/index.htm?utm_source=cj#service

posted this answer vast times.. and link 100.s

click boxes for car, then clutch chapter and read.
but does not cover bleeding, this is base line automech 101 knowledge. the book assumes you know 3 things.
1: constant loss of fluid and why.
2: air is system renders it dead.
3: how to bleed clutch and brakes (same) 5ways but same.

  1. gravity bled
  2. 2 man way.
  3. vacuum bleeding
  4. forward pressure bled at cap
  5. reverse bled at slave.
most times it takes 2 ways, in list, unless #5 is done.
air floats up hill is why and clutch lines are vertical. (hard to do)
