Re: lamp problem?

Your picture processor is broken. we have the same tv, after 1 year problem started. we got a tv tech out and he looked at it and said it would cost $1800 to fix and this is after we bought a $400 bulb from sharp. this problem is in many of the same tv's of this exact model as we've invstigated and sharp is unwilling to help. there should be a classaction suit or recall for this exact not buy bulb , it will not work

Samsung dlp tv HLP5663W makes loud noise

Yes, the set uses a color wheel and the lamp faces it.

The wheel turns at over 8,000 rpm and is well known for this problem=bearings in the tiny motor go bad.

The high pitched or fan like noise (classic description) is this part.

Sooner or later the wheel (plastic colored segments) will shatter and set will shut down lamp and not operate---set monitors the speed of the wheel so if it slows down or stops it knows.

The part is readily available on the internet (Google the model number with "color wheel").

This can be a do it yourself repair and You Tube has video instructions for replacing the wheel by model number.

There are two common pitfalls to avoid which the instructions that come with the replacement part usually do not mention---if you decide to do this repair let me know and I will explain.

At start up TV makes siren & ratching like sounds, no picture screen dark, requires turning TV off, is this cooling fan or color wheel problem & lamp replacement or all

That could be any of them. If you can get access to an analog meter such as voltmeter, you can test power to the cooling fan, to the color wheel, and to the lamp. See if any or none are getting power.

It overheats and pops the Xl-2100u lamp?

by pops? do you mean it explode? how many lamps? it could be the fan that supposed to be ventilating the lamp or it could be the the ballast, why the ballast because the ballast regulates the voltage in order the keep the lamp on, for ignition it sends around 15,000 volts after that it regulates the votage to a small amount of voltage around 5,000 so it could be sending the big amount of voltage all the time never regulates that or it could be regulating and then sending another big amount of voltage over and over until the lamp doesnt handle those changes.

No picture and no sound

simply unplugging the TV and turning it back on if started to work.
if it doesn't then the Trying a new lamp first is reccommended.
After all, you will need another lamp eventually.
Samsung Parts
model HLM507W as two different lamp replacement part. the LAMP for my TV was BP960224A. the replacement lamp listed on the Samsung site is BP960224C which was replaced by BP960224J. the difference according to my supplier is that A part has a brown power coupling and the J part has a black power coupling. hope this helps someone in the future. The couplings are different and a black LAMP coupling will not fit a brown TV coupling.

Replacement is simple, getting the right bulb is tougher. Make sure the TV is unplugged and the lamp has cooled. Looking at the TV from the back there is a lamp cover on the lower right. Remove the single screw, remove the door. There are two screws holding the lamp in, loosen these. Then flip the black plastic handle up at the bottom of the lamp assembly and pull the lamp assembly out.

Note the brand of the buld and the color of the connector (black or brown) and then call to order your parts from Samsung's parts reseller

With set off...mute + 1 + 8 + 2 + power.
Arrow down to "Options" push enter.
Lamp reset and lamp hours should be in there.
Power off 2 minutes or until fan kicks off to exit.

No Picture

Did you have color problems in past? Most of these sets have convergence problems. Amps goes out. But you should have seen some type of distortion from color, red, blue, green. If no color problems then maybe vertical ouput out or horizontal output bad.

Samsung DLP HLR5668W has mostly dark picture + grinding noise

Pix looks like a light pipe issue, inside the Light Engine. as far as the shutting down, could be a bad fan causing the grinding and when stopps the DMD turns the set off.
