Question about Jensen XA4100 Car Audio Amplifier

1 Answer

Jensen XA4100 Hi, I've just hooked up my sound system and I'm running the rear 6x9's 2 4 inch speakers and a 12inch sub from the Jensen XA4100. Problem is as soon as I plug the amp into the HU (the RMT wire) the headunit switches on and off when powered up and the amp goes into safety mode. I've even tried doing it with no speakers connected and it does this. but I did have it working running 1 speaker on initial set up?? What could cause this? I can't see it being a short as I've inspected all the power wires and they seem fine. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks John

Re: Jensen XA4100

Try using power directly from main to the remote terminal to see if headunit has a problem or the amp.please disconnect remote from head first.

How to get amp out of safe mode

first check all connections, fuses and speaker wiring. Check to make sure that the amp is getting enough power to keep it running, meaning a piece of 4 to 8 gauge minimum wre from your battery to the amp. Make sure no wires are touching ground on the speaker outputs all the way to where they connect to the speakers. You can check this with a Ohm Meter to see if their is a direct short to ground. Or unhook all speakers and 1 by 1 touch them onto the amp to see if it cuts out. If the amp is going iinto protect mode without any speakers hooked up to iit (I have a bad keyboard sorry for the extra or missiing I's) and all other things I mentioned are OK then your amps bad and needs to be serviced. Hopefully It's just be a shorted speaker or wire.

I cant hear bass in my little 8 inch sub when. I have hooked up my jensen 340 watt.

That not something you going to hear bass from. Get a 12 or atleast a 10. 8's are more mid-range speakers.

Hey i had 2 car amps +for 4 speakers(140W maxi) and a sub 12inch

1 cap, either .5, 1 or 1.5 farad will be fine. they make 5 10 and 20 farad that cost way more than u need to spend for 400 watts RMS. i like the rockford fosgates, you can get a low cost Tsunami, just make sure you follow the charging instructions.

I have a jesen ka5 5channel amp plus mono and i dont know how to hook up the subs to the mono

Ok, you're going to choose 1 set of inputs for the subs on the amp (I usually use the low or rear which ever has more settings) Now in the output side you're going to use the positive side of the right side speaker and the negative side of the left side speaker (you can switch left or right as long as they are opposite sides). Lets start with the negative wire connect it to the negative input on one of the subs, connect the positive wire to the positive input on the OTHER sub, then get an extra wire to connect the inputs not used on both subs. Adjust settings in amp and radio and if it doesn't sound good use negative and positive outputs from one single output (only left or only right) Hope this helps.

I have 2 6x9 speakers up front 4 6 1/2 3-ways

Hello rjmiller4039,

Although amps with 5 channels are pretty rare, you can get one. Alpine, Boston Acoustics, Infinity, JL audio, MTX, and Polk all have 5-channels ranging in price from around $350 up to around $1,000. The Alpine PDX-5 will output 75X4 watts RMS for the front and rear stereo channels and 300 watts to the mono sub channel. It is priced at $599.99 at Crutchfield.

Hope this helps.

Hooking up DVC subs

The amp is rated to run a 2 ohm load on each channel. To do this, connect the voice coils of one sub in parallel (tie both "+" on the sub to each other and both "-" on the sub to each other), then connect that sub to one channel of the amp. Repeat this process for the other sub and connect it to the other channel on the amp. The subs will be in stereo and the amp will be outputting it's maximum power.
